Venues not giving prices without an appointment

Hi everyone 🙂 I got engaged over Christmas and we're already eager to book a date/venue. I've found that several of the venues we're interested in are reluctant to give ballpark prices over email and insist on making an appointment with them. We're on a bit of a budget, and so don't want to waste time visiting venues we know we can't afford.

Is this the norm? I understand the venues offer personalised experiences but I just want an approx price of venue hire/packages.

I assumed if places didn’t give an indication then I probably wouldn’t be able to afford them. You could say exactly as you have here that you wouldn’t want to waste anyone’s time and see if they can send you an idea.

"So our budget is £N for M people, I take it you're more expensive than that then?"
TBH do you want to encourage venues playing silly buggers though?
