Wedding Dress - need options eloping so can’t ask friends/family !

I desperately need some opinions on this dress please ! We are eloping in the carribean next year (beach wedding) but it’s completely secret as we aren’t even engaged. I have fallen in love with this Vera wang dress that I can get shipped from America . My question is - it’s brand new but an 2014 style . Is it too dated or is it beautiful. As it’s a secret wedding I have no one to ask options . Please feel free to be completely honest ! Thanks

Hey, congratulations and the dress is gorgeous! I think a Vera Wang is timeless really.

I'd wear without the belt though. I'd snap it up if I were you!

Have you tried on any dresses at all? I would try trying on a similar shape in a shop first to make sure you are happy with it and that it suits you. You often hear brides saying what they thought they'd love didn't suit them.

If you love it the definitely get it. Love the idea of elopement, just you and DP/H.

Twoshoesnewshoes · 24/08/2024 11:49

Though get advice on packing it!

I'm not a fan of cheesy ruffles but actually I think this dress is quite nice as far as traditional dresses go.
It does look more expensive for some reason.

I bought mine from the States. Just be mindful of import tax.

I do think it looks like a ten year old style. That's what I thought looking at it before I read your post.

But I mean...who cares really if you love it?

It's not what I would choose for a hot beach wedding though. Wedding dresses are very heavy!

Is it literally on the beach? It'll be a sandy disaster very quickly.

Raininginparadise2 · 24/08/2024 11:59

If you love it OP then you love it. If it's a beach wedding then I think you'll get lots of sand in the ruffles. You might also feel very hot as the bottom part looks thick/ heavy. Have you tried on any dresses yet? Maybe a straighter, lighter, slightly flared dress could be considered? Some dresses look much better on, than when seen on the rail. Good luck for the wedding x

Growlybear83 · 24/08/2024 12:11

I have no idea if it's dated, but what does that matter if you love it?

doubleshift · 24/08/2024 12:21

Why all the dress fuss if no one you know is actually going to see you?

Elopement is usually to avoid all this sort of thing. If a member of my family eloped to a Caribbean wedding with frilly dress I would have precisely no interest in photos even.

Regarding the dress - looks way too hot and ridiculous for a Caribbean beach.

IOnlyNeedTheSilence · 24/08/2024 12:42

Oh come on @doubleshift

If you weren't invited to a family members' wedding you'd refuse to look at any photos?

People who get married privately are still entitled to have any trappings and trimmings they want.

Congratulations and hope it all goes well, Op.

@doubleshift we are eloping because we
want it to be about us . I won’t be spamming family with pictures however I do want to feel nice on my wedding day regardless of the guest number . We will be having a small evening party when we are home if family /friends wish to celebrate with us but it won’t be mandatory .

wedding will be at sunset on an overwater gazebo so not directly on sand but was planning a beach dinner so I will take all the comments about a lighter dress into consideration. Unfortunately the lighter ones I tried on Didn’t seem as flattering on my figure .

It's nice. If you like the style go for it. However, is it really that suitable for the beach? That's going to drag in the sand you'll be so hot
