Does anyone know where I can sell a wedding dress please?

I've tried on line for local shops but they only take dresses two years old or younger.

It's a really lovely dress, professionally cleaned and I'm moving house so don't want to take it. TIA.

Vinted

happyharpy78 · 23/08/2024 16:13

I sold my daughters for her on eBay

BirthdayRainbow · 23/08/2024 16:15

Doh. Didn't think of vinted and I have stuff on there. Thank you.

Ebay hasn't been a great experience for me but I'll see if there's any takers on Vinted.

Any clue for a price?

Still White

SkiTurtle · 23/08/2024 18:20

I have a dress to sell as well so I'm watching with interest. I'll have a look at Still White.

BirthdayRainbow · 23/08/2024 18:32

Unfortunately Still White won't work for me as only sell dresses from 2016 onwards.

You’re not likely to get much, if anything; for it - the market for second hand dresses is pretty awful.

If you just want rid of it, you could give it to a charity? Plenty collect them for proms/christening dresses/funeral gowns for children, etc.

If you would like to sell it, I was advised to price it at a third of its new price, and that was for a new, unworn and unaltered wedding dress (wedding cancelled for Covid). It didn’t sell anyway. It did get some offers I thought were ludicrously low, but probably should have accepted in hindsight!

Oh, funeral gown for a child. That is quite unexpected.

Hi again. I thought I'd sold my dress but it turned out to be a scammer 😡so if anyone has any ideas. It is listed on gumtree and eBay but no offers yet.

If your dress is more than 8 yrs old and hasn’t sold in 2mths you probably need to face facts that whilst you love it, it’s just not what anyone is looking for currently.

the baby funeral gowns is such a lovely way to use a loved dress, if you went that route perhaps you could have some of the fabric kept for a keepsake for you.

ComtesseDeSpair · 28/10/2024 19:08

Try Bride2Bride: sales are direct rather than through a middle company purchasing and reselling your dress.

Are you being properly realistic with the price? If it’s pre-2016 and not a fashionable style / current line then it’s going to sit around unless you’ve priced it very attractively. My wedding dress wasn’t white, which made it easier, but I had it turned into an evening dress.

BirthdayRainbow · 28/10/2024 20:08

It's not a dress that could be classed as dated and it is a very good price imo. I just can't bare for it to go in the bin. I'm not looking for much money. It is ivory and very nice. Thank you.

Just to add, I've not been trying to sell it for two months. I only got round to listing it two weeks ago.

As previous posters have said, the market for second hand dresses is pretty small. How much are you trying to sell it for?

NorthantsNewbie · 28/10/2024 20:13

You may find a local theatre company wants it for a costume department? Or secondary school even?

I sold an unworn gown which has been stored in the bridal shop (covid cancellation as above) on Still White and it still took ages - it literally still had the tags on. I think your best bet is a charity or similar if you want to shift quickly (but they weren’t accepting when I looked).

I sold mine on Vinted someone wanted it for a Halloween outfit. You won't get what you think you want for it.
