Dress alterations for short legs! Process?

I’m just under 5ft, so pretty much every dress off the shelf will be too long. I’m hoping I can buy one off the shelf and have it altered. I’ve emailed a seamstress to query but not heard back yet… I’m wondering if I should show them the dress before purchasing to check it looks alterable? I read about certain fabric or designs being harder alter. I like some on Wed2b but unsure of what will work… imagine I go try on and then consult seamstress?

Any experience or wisdom welcome!

Are you buying off the shelf/second hand?

Alternatively try on the 3/4 length dresses, it may fit perfectly.

Definitely get it altered - try asking on your local facebook for recommendations?

I agree with you that I would want to check their opinion of a dress before going ahead and purchasing! They know so much, they will guide you.

Is it possible to directly find some websites where you can purchase dresses with customizable lengths, such as Azazie or Cocomelody?

This is possible, I ordered from JJs house and sent them extra measurements to adjust body length as well as total length, it came just right
There must be plenty of 5ft people getting married all the time.
If you're keen for off the shelf I agree it makes sense to talk to seamstress first, they might need to see you or at least your measurements too as I imagine it's simpler to cut the bottom off for short legs than to shorten the body.
