Food help

Hi all we are having a twilight wedding at 4pm with a sit down meal at 6pm followed by dessert. Would you expect food again later or will it be too much? There will be wedding cake sliced up later in the evening. There are no additional evening guests. I don't want to come across stingey but I also don't want to pay money for food if it will largely be ignored. The wedding will be done and dusted by 11pm

We had our sit down meal at 4:30pm ish- then served a buffet at 9pm (with the cake as well) - most of it was untouched as everyone was still full.

The cheese and biscuits were popular at about 11pm and a bit of cake was eaten but that was it!

Given that your guests will be eating much later, I'm very sure that just cake alongside some teas and coffees would be fine.

I’d say with the meal at that time, you don’t need evening food.

SunStorms · 11/04/2024 14:44

I don’t think you need a buffet but some nibbles would be good to soak up the alcohol if people are drinking. Perhaps some cheese and biscuits with grapes etc when you serve cake?

RoseAndRose · 13/04/2024 16:34

I think that's a pretty normal time to eat, so evening hunger cues should be satisfied, especially as there will be cake later.

(You only need an evening meal if your guests are still there after a reception at lunchtime, or earlier in the afternoon rather than a normal evening meal time)

vincettenoir · 13/04/2024 16:35

No I don't think you need food later on

Pollyannamex · 18/04/2024 06:45

I think food would be wasted at that time but maybe have some savoury snacks like crisps/cheese/biscuits as well as the cake.

Overthebow · 18/04/2024 06:51

No, with the meal at 6pm it likely won’t be finished until 8.30/9pm so no I don’t think you’d need more food, the cut up wedding cake will be fine. I’m assuming you’re not having separate evening guests at that time? There won’t be much evening reception anyway if it’s finishing at 11pm, only about 2 hours and some of that will be taken up with guests chilling after the meal and the cake cutting/first dance, as that’s not going to happen immediately after the meal, so there probably won’t be any time for evening food anyway.

We had same. Wedding at 3, food at 6, no food later. We figured 6pm is a pretty normal time to eat and you wouldn't normally have another meal at 9pm would you?! The venue did bring leftovers from the meal out a bit later but we had tapas/sharing platters so that was relatively easy to do. Not sure if much of that got eaten though!

BarrelOfOtters · 18/04/2024 07:48

We had very similar timetable and some guests who liked a drink, so had bacon baps and something for vegetarians, possibly cheese and biscuits (can’t remember was a while ago) at about 10.30, and it all got snaffled up.

then we finished up about 11.15.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 18/04/2024 07:51

A beige hot buffet would probably go down well 9/10pm as those that are drinking will be peckish from the alchohol l.Unless that's just me..

scottishGirl · 20/04/2024 09:01

I'd go with a cheese / charcuterie type set up

Laf90 · 21/04/2024 08:39

Thanks all I think we will go for cheese/breads/crackers/grapes for people to graze on
