Hello! I have just got engaged and we'd love our dream wedding to be in Jamaica in 2025. Problem is we have a very large family to accommodate and a very small budget so wondering if it is just a dream or if we are able to make it a reality. Would love to hear from anyone who got married there and your experiences and any advice! So far I'm finding out that if you want your wedding in a hotel then most if not all of your wedding party must be staying at the hotel which we will also struggle with if people's budgets do not stretch to an expensive hotel. Help please! Thank you in advance!

Judging by posts on here about weddings abroad, it’d be a hard no from me!

  1. have you ever been to Jamaica before?
  2. can your family all afford to pay for flights and accommodation?
  3. can YOU afford flights, accommodation AND wedding costs?

Why Jamaica? Are you reliant on family paying for hotel rooms to fund your holiday wedding?

close relative got married in Jamaica, I’m a seasoned traveller and good at organising and finding deals. I tried to help with sorting (and to go, too!) it was insanely expensive! It’s just not IME a place where you can mix and match budget/luxury. Happy to be proved wrong, but it wasn’t doable for us, and most other people invited couldn’t go either.

Why not get married where you live and then honeymoon in Jamaica? You are asking friends and family to spend a lot of time and money on your dream.

Honestly, it's unfair to drag your family such a long distance, have to use their annual leave and perhaps put them in a difficult financial situation.

As PPs have said, have a lovely UK wedding where everyone you love and who loves you can be there so celebrate your special day, and then honeymoon in Jamaica or elope to Jamaica and have a big party when you get back.

This is mainly our dream as my fiancés family are Jamaican so lots of our family are very keen to join us there! Problem is the cost of a really nice wedding coupled with the holiday packages to even get there!
Would love to hear from anyone who actually tied the knot there! 😊

Could you get married in your home country and then have a honeymoon + blessing/party for your Jamaican family (in your original wedding attire). That way, most your family can celebrate with you in an affordable way.
