Will I regret not having a videographer?

We have a fair bit of slack in our budget atm (£3kish once all is paid and done) thanks to the Mr's judicious budgeting and strict adherence to his spreadsheet. 🙃Including about £1k for the miscellaneous little bits we want to add for the 'quality of life' enhancement for the wedding.

We've been on the fence about getting a videographer for a while, mostly because decent ones cost a decent amount (rightfully as they're artists in their own right). Looking for opinions on if you felt they were worth it or what made you go for one in the end.

100% worth it. Wouldn't have changed it for the world as there were so many moments I'd have forgotten otherwise. We shopped around and got someone quite reasonable who was willing to travel to us.

TBH I regret having a photographer as the album sits gathering dust and getting in the way.

No way would I have watched a video, or worse inflicted it on other people.

I think I'm in the minority but I would say it's not necessary. We didn't have one purely because I would have been self conscious all day (I know they say the good ones know unnoticed but I would still know they were there!).

So far haven't regretted not having one and instead we invested extra into the photographer

We had a video in 1989. After that year I can't remember watching it until we got it transferred to dvd. Save your money.

I sort of regret not having one because there were some moments that the pictures just didn't quite do justice. Though would a video? I don't know.

I adore looking back at my photos on occasion, but I'd never have sat down and watched a video. Who would I show it to? I'm not really interested in seeing any of my friends wedding videos.

I love the video my son took of our wedding, he recorded it because we got married during covid and there were people who wanted to attend but couldn't. I am glad he took it because the photographer didn't show and the photos family took are crap!

My brother had one at his wedding. So did my best friend. It was fantastic to watch- once.

They were watched once when they got it & I think they both watched it again with their teenaged children,

Other than that the DVDs have lain in a drawer. Waste of money

Given how little people look at the photos, myself included I honestly can't see anyone watching back a video more than once so I'd put it in the completely unnecessary category, save the money for something else.

We didn’t plan on one and it was a last minute decision. It’s been 37 years and I still love watching it now and again. Not regularly, but every few years, I watch it and love seeing my mum and dad and my two favourite aunties, who have all been gone for over 20 years. Lovely memories.

We didn’t bother and no regrets. We had an excellent photographer (2 actually!) and look at the photos quite often, but would never watch a video after one viewing I reckon.

We didn't get one and have never regretted it. Married for 17 years and I reckon I've looked through the album about 5 times! So can't imagine I would have watched the video more than once.

We had a great photographer almost all day and he captured so many of the candid moments. Don't regret not having a video as I knew we'd never watch it! Also didn't want people feeling self conscious!

We didn't have one and now I wish we had. Perhaps not a professional video, but just someone videoing the people at the reception and the informal bits of the day. I was married in 1988 and a lot of the people who were at our wedding have now died, my parents included. It would be lovely to have a video of us all together having fun on that day and especially to be able to hear their voices again. Photos don't capture the sounds, music and atmosphere in the same way.

We get married in July and we're wondering the same thing! We have decided to go with a company called edit your wedding. They send you however many lightweight 4K cameras as you want, you get guests to film (or buy a tripod!) then you send them back and they edit it into a video. It's costing us £430 compared to the videographer quotes that were around the 2k mark that I couldn't justify!!

I like them because they look like old fashioned wedding videos, laid back and personal.

If you can afford it 100% get it done. The day goes by in a blink and it is so lovely to watch every now again. Many people no longer here, it just captures a moment in time, that's so special and if you have a shit memory it helps to bring it back

We didn’t have one and don’t regret it at all. Someone did take a bit of video but tbh I haven’t a clue what has happened to it. 🤷🏻‍♀️
Save your money- a budget isn’t a spending aim so if there is left over it doesn’t need to be spent.
Though if you’ve not got bacon butties or soup for the end of the night- add that in!! Fab tradition!

We took a couple of shot phone vidoes of nice /funny bits.

We spent the £1/1.5k saved on upgrading the honeymoon... again #noregrets

Ours was a very small wedding and I didn't even bother with professional photos, although a relative took a few pics even though I hadn't asked her to.

Honestly, just being married and enjoying our life together was all I wanted. How often does anyone look through photo albums or watch home videos? But then I don't do selfies or posting pointless stuff on social media either, so probably in the tiny minority here. 😂

We swithered, got one, and I'm so glad we did. The day zooms by in a blur and getting to rewatch it is fantastic. We probably do so every second anniversary on average. We can share the memories with our children, including special moments with family legends who they never got to meet.

We had one and although we watched and loved the 15 minute 'feature film' loads when we first got it I couldn't tell you the last time we watched it! We also booked a package that included full ceremony and speeches. Not watched them since!

If I were you I'd look for a photographer that does film rather than a proper videographer. There are a few of them about. That way you'll hopefully get a beautiful short highlights film which I think is all you need really.

Agree with PP I think I've looked at my wedding photos twice since receiving them.
I'm not sure I'd bother with those again either!
