How to retract all the save the dates

Hello. Due to financial reasons DP and I want to cancel the big wedding we have planned. We have already sent the save the dates.

How can we 'cancel' the save the dates?

Can't you just use the same means that uou used yo send the save the date?

@Namechangeforthis88 what would I say?

Dear friend/relative
Due to an unfortunate change in circumstances, we are no longer able to have the wedding we initially planned. Please disregard the Save the Date you were sent previously.

How much are you scaling down?

If you're going from 50-100+ guests to only having parents and siblings then it's an easy one to sort really. You just say you're going to have a tiny wedding instead, perhaps organise a party at a later date and invite the original list.

However, it's different if you're going from 100 to 70 for example, as you're risking sending a message that these are second rate friends/family and that's hard to do without upsetting people.

Our friends did this, they sent an email out IIRC, using wording similar to what a PP has posted. I guess you could do that, anyone you don’t have an email address for you could write to?
