Activities for kids

We are getting married and have a number of children coming from 18 months to 6, also lots of older ones including our own who are teenagers.

The venue has space in the room where the wedding breakfast will be served and I’ve arranged for a known to us registered childminder to come and help out from just before the ceremony to after the meal. We are going to set up a table with activities to keep the kids entertained as I can imagine the meal will be long and boring for them.

so I need ideas for non messy, quiet activities, Amazon links much appreciated!!

We printed these and put them on A4 clipboards with a pack of coloured pencils for each child. There are so many different options on Etsy, they loved the scavenger hunt part ticking off the list.

I don’t know what time of year your wedding is and if you have any outside space but we had sports day games and a stomp rocket outside that the older children liked.

We didn’t have any teenagers so not sure what the best thing would be there.

As they came into the church, I gave all the kids at ours (ranged from 3 to 11) an age appropriate book to read during the wedding (Scarecrow’s wedding for littlies, Isadora Moon goes to a wedding for 5-7s, Rent-a-Bridesmaid for older, The Knight’s Activity Book for boys as we were in a church with knights tombs!).

Then for the reception, I put together a little bag for each child with:

  • an unlined notebook,
  • crayons/pencils as appropriate,
  • stickers,
  • a small Lego dots activity (keyring or wristband).
seemed to keep them entertained!

Had some games they could play together and a tattoo station during the drinks/ canapes which was super popular! https://www.dorisloves.co.uk/product/rock-n-roll-bride/

Consider having water and fruit or some of their food being very simple and out earlier. Hungry children could become hangry.
Paper table runners and crayons, colouring books. Parents will cater for their child too.

Elsewhere set up a carpet with some duplo, building blocks and a chair or two for any parent who might like to keep a few kids quiet.

I'd hire one of those small softplay kits that go on a mat for the tiny ones and then maybe an arts and crafts table? Also Lego would probably keep them occupied for a while.
