Wrong surname in Save the date

MsBubbles85 · 13/09/2023 15:28

Hi all, my husband and I have receive the save the date for a relative of his and the family name in his mum's maiden name. I checked with my PIL and both my PIL and BIL have received it with the correct surname. Would you say anything? I know how stressful planning a wedding is so I don't want to add more stress to the bride and groom
The bride and groom know both of us, went to our wedding and have us in social media so they could check family names easily!
Thanks!

I wouldn't, what difference does it make

RoyKentsTieDyeTop · 13/09/2023 15:38

Why would you be bothered by this?

GiraffeLaSophie · 13/09/2023 15:39

So just to check:

You and your husband are Mr and Mrs Smith, but your MIL’s maiden name is Jones. Instead of receiving a Save the Date for M&M Smith, you’ve received one for M&M Jones. Is that right?

Are you worried it might be for someone else? If it’s definitely for you then I really wouldn’t worry!

You could flounce....
Or you could just shrug-because it makes no difference.....

Then don’t! Why would you even consider making an issue of this?

I'm trying to imagine a version of my life when I'd even notice this happening, let alone care.

Nope, can't do it.

That's correct, on the bride side there are 5 other Mr& Mrs Smith (just in aunts/uncles) plus cousins (big family).
When I got married, I would have liked to be told if I made a mistake like this so I could make sure it was corrected for invites, table plan...
Maybe it is me being OTT

No, I wouldn't say anything. I'd simply accept or decline the invite n the usual way.

Of course, if you're replying formally, use your real names rather than Bob and Brenda Jones (if Jones is your mothers maiden name).

A friend of ours mis-names DH all the time. It's got so ridiculous that I'm sometimes tempted to write our Christmas card from us to them with what he thinks is DH's name!

LaLaLouella · 13/09/2023 16:01

Just tell them! It's just a small mistake, write them a note when you RSVP and then you'll get the right names on the invitations/seating plans etc. if you don't, it will be wrong on everything and it will annoy you (and the bride/groom once they realise!).

MsBubbles85 · 13/09/2023 16:06

Thanks everyone! I will also check with my MIL as it is her part of the family and I don't want to annoy anyone.

Hang on? If it's in-laws that correcting or not is your husbands job surely
