London Winter Wedding venues - help please

Following on from my previous thread - I might need to make a last minute change to my wedding plans because I found out that I’m pregnant. I’m thinking of bringing my wedding which was planned for early summer 2024 forward and do it in January instead. I can’t use my original venue because it is only suitable for warmer weather. I never thought I’d get married in January so I’m on square one again with venues…any recommendations?

  • January, London
  • intimate wedding, max 50 guests (would also consider reducing it to family only which would be 10 people if there is an an amazing, cosy venue)
  • Medium prize range

Thank you 😊

Church or secular?

IME (albeit many years ago) Le Gothique's wedding package is hard to beat on price and it's a lovely location. It's a bit of a production line, but if you're going to be heavily pregnant that's probably what you want: you just select options A, 2, X and it all just happens - all you need to do is send out the invites.

Thanks both, I’ll have a look at these!

Secular wedding.

Honestly you'll likely struggle to find anywhere that has availability for 3 months time so I don't think you'll have the option of being picky. Your best bet is to call any and all venues and take any that are available.

Also true.
You might get lucky with a random January Saturday but you'll probably end up having to a) go mid week or b) get married in a registry office and book out a decent sized nearby restaurant for the reception. Option b is a perfectly fine way to do it.

Yes, I understand that I’ll need to be a bit flexible…hopefully luck is on my side and January isn’t a popular month for a wedding 🤞

@Cinai
East Wintergarden is beautiful, but you'll need to check if they can do 50 guests. Congratulations on your pregnancy and have a great wedding! xx

Despite its name, the Fitzrovia Chapel is a venue for secular weddings. It looks beautiful and can accommodate 78 people: https://www.fitzroviachapel.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Fitzrovia-Chapel-Wedding-Brochure.pdf

I've been to a wedding at the Fitzrovia chapel, it's gorgeous, and there's an enormous choice of restaurants nearby to host a reception. Not the cheapest choice though.

SOme of the London clubs offer non members event bookings - the In and Out in St James, Lansdowne on Berkley Square, Century Club on Shaftesbury Square, RAF Club on Piccadilly and City CLub in the City. There's also Westminster Boating base on the Thames at Pimlico and further out Morden Hall.

If you don't need central London, Glenmore House in Surbiton would be worth considering.

Some fantastic ideas here, thank you! I’ve managed to book a viewing at Bingham Riverhouse, they even still have a Saturday in January available. Will check out some others as well!

My first wedding venue had a fire a few months before I was due to get married so we had to move the venue and date 😱
I remember a bit beforehand thinking, if I was to do all this a second time - never imagining I would have to - I would look up a list of all the licensed venues in areas I liked and go through them ruling out by size, cost & availability to get a shortlist which means you can't miss any ideal / dream venues out.
I did this after the above incident and found an even better venue and got an insurance payout as I had somehow though to get wedding insurance for £100 or so which covered the difference in price between everything I had to rebook.

How about Fulham Palace? I visited as a tourist several years ago and was amazed at how tranquil it was. https://www.fulhampalace.org/venue-hire/weddings-civil-ceremonies/.

I’ve also been to a retreat at St Katherine’s Foundation in Limehouse which is lovely. https://www.rfsk.org.uk/weddings-at-rfsk

For something a bit different, there’s the Asylum Chapel (civil venue) in Peckham, which has some Saturdays in Jan 2024 available. https://asylumchapel.co.uk/contact

Good luck!

Weddings and civil ceremonies - Fulham Palace

A grand historic venue on the banks of the Thames, Fulham Palace is a magical place to celebrate your wedding or civil ceremony.

i was also going to suggest the Fitzrovia Chapel -- I was tempted to downsize our wedding to be able to host it there (we had a February wedding)!
