If attending a wedding evening reception

White - massive no

Red - is this still a no?

Black - all black dress - views on this?

Anything else to avoid!??

First choice is black but thinking hot pink too.

I think you can wear what you like. Except white.

sunsethorizon · 05/08/2023 06:58

I agree with the PP, I think anything except white is ok these days.

Peony654 · 05/08/2023 07:01

Wear anything, just not a plain white dress

pilates · 05/08/2023 07:02

Yes anything but white

wedding12341 · 05/08/2023 07:05

So I won't look like I'm going to a funeral if I wear a black dress?

Black is fine for wedding evening reception

DappledThings · 05/08/2023 07:11

Someone will be along in a minute to tell you green is out. Something to do with annoying the fairies.

Load of bollocks. Any colour is fine. Even a white background if it has a big pattern on it. Black is fine.

Prescottdanni123 · 05/08/2023 07:19

White - No.

Red - Completely fine.

Black - Controversial. In terms of society's opinion on the whole, the jury seems to be out. Some people say yes. Others say no.

greenteaandmarshmallows · 05/08/2023 07:20

I like to wear really dark navy so it's basically black!

Something about Opals being bad luck too

Prescottdanni123 · 05/08/2023 07:20
  • Just to add, I might not wear a completely red dress for a second wedding because that is a popular colour for brides who have already been married before. Unless I knew that she was going to be wearing a different colour.
RuthW · 05/08/2023 07:26

It's just the evening so you can wear anything.

AuntieStella · 06/08/2023 11:59

I would definitely swerve white (too bridal) and black (too funereal, and sometimes taken as a mark of disapproval)

Red is only a no-no when it's a wedding from a different culture where it's the traditional bridal colour (eg Chinese)

That still leaves loads of colours and patterns to choose from!!

LadyBird1973 · 06/08/2023 12:18

I've worn black to a wedding (it did have another colour as well but was mostly black). I caught two of my so called friends having a little bitch about it but I looked amazing that day and better than both of them , so if you don't mind petty gossips then wear what you want. IMHO, the only colour you should avoid is white, and anything the bride asks you not to wear.
