Gifts to each other on your wedding day?

What's the general view on this?

Is it traditional for the bride and groom to buy each other a gift for the day? Or a card?

If you do buy a gift when do you give it to one another (I'm staying at my parents the night before)

OH thinks not but I thought you did... Haven't got anything yet and wedding is very imminent!

I've never heard of the bride and groom buying gifts for each other.

I have him a book. But it was personal choice, not because it was a "thing".

No didn't exchange gifts, 20yrs ago. My neice is getting married next month and I don't thing her and her husband to be are exchanging gifts, never heard of it before

I bought husband a watch, and I arranged his brother to give to him on our wedding day before the ceremony.
I don't think it's traditional, but I got a big flashy ring and he got the watch. Just something we did for each other.

I think a card is really sweet. I don’t think presents are needed but something sentimental would be nice, don’t just give for the sake of it!

My husband bought me a claddagh ring (as well as my wedding ring) on our wedding day, been married 37 years, so not a new thing.

Your wedding rings are your gifts. If one of you doesn't want a ring then a watch or other type of jewellery. No other gifts are necessary.

I definitely got him a card and I think we both got gifts but neither of us can remember so maybe don’t bother….

My DHtb bought me a beautiful necklace I wore on my wedding day as a gift. I bought him an oil painting I commissioned of his childhood beach. He had told me many times he misses his beach. It's hung in his office WFH/a spare little bedroom.

My husband gave me a beautiful diamond pendant & earrings. I gave him a fancy watch. This was 20 odd years ago, so it's not a recent thing.

I got my husband some special cufflinks and gave them to the best man to give to DH on the morning. He sent me a bouquet of pink and white roses (same as he gave me when he picked me up for our first date) to be delivered while I was getting ready.
No massive expense, albeit not free, but really sweet.

I got DH some collar stiffeners (which he used regularly for shirts) engraved with something personal to us. He was very surprised and felt bad he didn’t get me anything but it didn’t matter to me at all!

I would say the tradition is to exchange rings. The ring is the present.

I mean, not that anyone has to do something because it is tradition, nor does it matter if you choose to do something that isn't traditional, but I wouldn't (and didn't). It is just one more thing to be thinking about, and one more thing to have to budget for.

I did think it was traditional. Maybe varies by area? I bought my husband a watch and he gave me a necklace which I wore on the day.

We did, and exchanged them the day before the wedding, before I left for my parents’ house - I gave him cufflinks that he then decided to wear on the day, he gave me a pretty nightdress & robe set in our ‘wedding colours’ which I chose to take on honeymoon. I don’t recall doing it out of any sense of tradition (and this was over 20 years ago) but we’ve always enjoyed giving each other ‘just because’ presents, then and now.

I secretly did a professional nude photoshoot (it was classy, not tacky!) and had the photos printed in an album. He opened it on our wedding morning. He was quite pleased with that 😂

Yes classy. I had no clothes on but no “bits” are in the photos. It’s done professionally with clever lighting, silhouettes, draped sheets. I found it empowering and liberating, my husband loved the photos and still does 20 years later. Maybe you should be less judgemental and rude.
