I just been quoted by my venue £7.25 for one canapé per person...now it it me or is that rediculiously dear and over priced!!? Even then it was strange fillings..

Any other ideas I can give my guest as we arrive after our church ceremony to our venue at a golf country club..
I arranged for prosecco and jugs of juice for us and canapes..

Got bit of a wait till the evening buffet so was looking for some nibbles or something to fill out Tummies while photos were being done and while we chatted..there's not alot of us about 28... it's too fill the gap ..

I literally can't think what else to offer.. sandwiches? Don't know what those prices will be...

We have hot/ cold buffet for evening guests..

Why not cut your cake then and serve it?

Rainbowsandrainclouds1 · 14/07/2023 20:48

That's pretty steep unless a high high end restaurant.

What type of venue and what typen of canape?
When are you arriving and when is the buffet?

Rainbowsandrainclouds1 · 14/07/2023 20:49

To clarify by what typenof venue I was thinking is it a high end golf and country club 5 star jobby or a 2-3 star one

Bella13476 · 14/07/2023 21:26

Not a high end it's more three star venue
Mandarin and prune
Trout row
Salmon
Ham and fig

Church is 3 pm having photos on the grounds, get to venue depends on traffic...
4.30pm arrival then going to have photos in the grounds of the golf course..

Evening guests arriving 7pm ...cutting of the cake then buffet 8 pm..hot cold buffet...( May change to just cold buffet yet )

As we arrive we have drinks on arrival ..I wanted canapes, but now looking at other ideas....otherwise I bring something in , in the morning if the venue won't do anything...need ideas..

Venue suggested splitting the evening buffet , but then I be short on the evening buffet!!?

Another thing to stress about!

Seems the venue has aspirations of grandeur.

I think you need to feed something, id ask about finger sarnies.

Have the venue said you can bring your own food in - most wouldn't allow this.

I do think that is steep for canapes but I think you are pushing it a bit to invite guests to a 3pm ceremony and not feed them until 8pm !!

If I were invited to a 3pm service, I would expect to be eating around 6, if I'm honest.
40mins ish service
1hour ish photos
That still leaves you an hour and 20 mins to get people to the venue.

I mean, if there are only 28 of you, I wouldn't expect the photos to need to last an hour, but obviously I don't know how far the Reception venue is from the Church.

A different option from canapes at the Reception venue, is to have something at the Church, whilst you are having the photos. I've seen this done several times, both with a glass of prossecco and also with mugs of tea. I've seen it done where the couple cut the cake and everyone raised a glass to the couple at the Church. I've been at a couple of weddings where the couple asked specific guests to bring cakes to share, and I've seen it where couples brought in 'bought' things, but it worked well in all cases. Sometimes the couple ask at the Church if there are Church members who would make tea / clear up for a donation to the Church, or maybe if someone were fundraising for something, or a responsible couple of teens etc.

However, I still think that's late to eat, after a 3pm ceremony.

How about scones? A mix of sweet and savoury for an afternoon tea vibe.

Bella13476 · 14/07/2023 22:20

Unfortunately the church is unable to offer any refreshments or space.

Definitely has to be at the venue once we arrive.
The canapes are strange fillings too or is that me?
So definitely need something to pick at..
They said they can half my evening buffet and use some of that .but then I be short in the evening? Would my guests want two lots of sandwiches?
I just say I have not been to alot of weddings.
Was thinking cakes like afternoon tea thing but without the cup of teas.?

As its a mid week wedding alot of my guests work so time get to us 7 pm works well.
Got different currys and then a cold buffet for evening guests..then the wedding cake will be laid out..

Just ideas for arrival

Can you either take in macarons, scones, cupcakes etc so it's almost like an afternoon tea, or could you take bowls of olives, sundries toms & cheese, stuffed pepper dew peppers etc maybe some humus and crudités?

Snugglemonkey · 14/07/2023 22:30

I think that you need more than cakes. I would be really disappointed at having to wait until 8 for food. I would have an afternoon tea with sandwiches, scones and cakes probably.
