Bridal shoes - help!

Hello everyone:

Struggling with what shoes to wear with my dress.

Usually I am not a cream shoes sort of gal. I like a bit of colour or interesting looking. Usually I wear platform docs, classic nike/adidas trainers, or converse.

If I do get something white or cream, I am loathe to spend a lot on something I will wear once.

The wedding isn't super traditional and neither is my dress so happy to go a bit 'outside the box' with the shoes but I don't want to ruin the look of the dress.

I tried white doc marten sandals on with my dress and they look a bit silly so that's out.

I was considering getting something colourful as it's more 'me' and then I would possibly wear again but I don't know if it will take away from the dress?

Do brides usually go for plain shoes so they don't take away from the dress?

I have hit a wall and am tempted to whack white nike air max under my dress.

I have attached pics of my dress and some shoes I liked yesterday (but now thinking they're a bit boring...)

I am 5 foot 7 so adding height isn't a factor for me. Open to a slight heel though as an extra inch or so makes me feel powerful and nice for the posture :D

Please give me your thoughts!

Im slightly taller and just wore some cheap white flat sandals. Took them on holiday with me afterwards. I wouldn’t worry about finding the perfect shoes if you’re not bothered. Im
super happy I didn’t spend loads on them, i think they were from accessorise.

travisbarker · 12/05/2023 13:52

@100daystogo thank you - I like it. Our wedding is in August so sandals are an option (just not my chunky doc ones!) I may just go round some shops and see what jumps out at me.

I wore converse under my dress. Meant I was comfy all day long. I had them customised so mine were blue (something blue obvs) and leopard print. My dress was pretty traditional so I liked being more "me" in my footwear. 😂

I am also feeling white converse - yours sound very cute and nice and jazzy!

I know they are a bit marmite on here, but Irregular Choice have some lovely wedding shoes.

I was very sad that my daughter opted for something much more "sensible" (even though I was paying!). Might treat myself to some when child number 2 gets married.

I wore a purple pair of closed toe sandals which I had bought and worn several times to practice dancing in before hand.
I did wear them a couple of times afterwards until our pets nibbled them!

Bold colourful shoes were very on trend for 2022, you could definitely still wear them now but I'm getting the impression you maybe want to be a bit different? Just highlighting that colourful shoes are actually pretty common at the moment.

I'm not a fan of brides wearing Converse/Docs etc, it screams 'look how quirky I am' but is actually very overdone. Nice to change into after dinner though.

Your dress is cute and summery so I agree, flat or block heel sandals would work. You could go for white/ivory or a metallic. The shoes you've posted are lovely (and similar to my wedding shoes, although mine are ivory) but they're quite formal where your dress is quite boho. I'm not sure it works.

travisbarker · 13/05/2023 11:47

Thanks everyone for your helpful replies. @ALittleBitAlexa i agree with everything you said. I’m thinking something like this now as I liked a poster above idea to look for sandals. Maybe in a colour or maybe as is

I saw some on Vinted and they scared me a bit 🤣. But I looked on their website and they have some cool ones.

If go for tan sandals, flat, wedge or heeled depending on your preference. I have timberland ones that are super comfortable and not too granny Grin. You can then use them again but not will they stand out.

Alternatively go for painted docs or out there converse - make a statement, I wouldn't do plain white trainer, boring but will stand out

Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies · 13/05/2023 13:06

I have no advice on shoes… but your dress is lovely.

FettleOfKish · 13/05/2023 13:12

For my first (winter) wedding I had a fishtail dress that meant you couldn't really see them anyway, I wore deep purple satin kitten heels to match the colour scheme.

Second (summer) wedding with a floatier lace layered dress I wore pale pink / nude low wedges, these ones.

Comfort should be as much as a priority as looks. Nothing worse than being miserable with sore feet, especially on your wedding day.

They're lovely OP, I like them in the white but any colour would be nice. I know I said I don't like brides in Docs but if you did want to go with that sort of style I'd avoid the DM sandals/anything white, glittery or personalised and lean into the boho/grunge bride look - like this pic

My colleague had gorgeous custom made converse. Her daughter had matching ones. Looked fab.

Cyanchicken · 13/05/2023 21:16

Have you looked at esska shoes - very comfortable and do nice metallics and white ones? 70s platform vibe

londonmummy1966 · 13/05/2023 21:18

If you liked those blue shoes but were a bit worried about color you could buy something similar in a white fabric for the day and then get them dyed later to a colour that suited you - something like these.

Similar to the above post, I went for Rainbow Club shoes (got mine from John Lewis), wore them cream for my wedding and then got them dyed navy so I can wear them again (it was a wet day and they got a bit stained so was recommended to choose a dark colour) - but if you want you can send them off with a swatch to dye them the colour you want. They were comfortable to wear on the day too which is perhaps more important!

Percypiglover · 13/05/2023 23:01

I got a pair of white shoes then had someone personalise them from Etsy. They are a fab memento from our wedding and felt really special as they were unique to me

Thank you, I’ve seen that suggestion before, I absolutely love their shoes, they’re just a little pricey for me

I went for these in the end. This convo really helped me decide what I want. 🤍Thanks everyone and to you especially @ALittleBitAlexa as feel we’re on a similar wavelength. Decided a plain shoe was the one with my dress being quite detailed. And I’m going to have a bit of ‘extraness’ elsewhere as I’m going to have super glittery toenails and I’m going to make my own baby’s breath flower crown. I tried a veil but with my dress it looked bloody ridiculous 🤣

I’d wear something like these with that dress to match the vintage style:

I wore a pair of red shoes my mum just happened to spot in passing as we were shopping one day. I love them. I still have them.

My advice would be to find shoes that are comfortable and hang whatever colour they are 😉

HomeSeck · 14/05/2023 16:19

Don't know if you've seen Loeffler Randall sandals OP but there's some fairly decent dupes on Amazon, the look might go with your dress and there's plenty of colours alongside white if you were still thinking about something different.
