Anyone been truly stunned by a proposal?

I’m just engaged and can’t believe it 😂.

Wanted to get engaged to an ex when I was young (glad I didn’t!) We talked it to death (engagement, ring, wedding) so it wouldn’t have been a huge surprise if he had done it.

Met my current partner and because of the above I was over it. I wanted the focus on a life partner versus wedding, marriage. He felt the same.

Past few months I’ve warmed to marriage as we both know we are in it for life plus I have stepsons so nice to make it official. And good for when we are older re inheritance etc. Thought ah I will bring it up to him at some point and state my reasoning. I thought he’d probably agree as I know he truly loves me and is totally committer.

Booked a holiday, he had planned a scenic walk. Was about to bring up something about our cat and I look at him and he has a ring box and was going down on one knee. 😂 I was absolutely floored!!! I didn’t see it coming at all.

Has anyone else been truly stunned my a proposal - not seen it coming in the slightest? Would love to know your stories. ❤️

Make sure your wills are done through a solicitor if stepchildren are involved

Oh that sounds amazing!! Congratulations 🥳 I bet you finished that walk on cloud nine 🥰 how thoughtful he went and did it all too, I love it when it's a true surprise proposal- makes me excited!

Mine was too, we'd gone away for my birthday (not unusual we do every year) and he just casually said oh do you want your present before your meal - I was excited thinking he'd got the hint about a new handbag I'd been angling for 😂- I turned round and he was on one knee holding a box! I instantly cried and ruined the makeup I'd just put on 😂 it was lovely, intimate and just perfect. I'm still happy he managed the surprise, especially as he then told me he'd had the ring for 3 months waiting, I couldn't believe he'd managed to be so calm! 😊

Yes was at the beach around sunset, we were on a weekend away for hubby's trail racing the next day. We were sat on the rocky headland, I was picking up stray fishing rubbish, decided it was time to go as the eroded rocks were very sharp and uncomfortable to sit on, and he pulled me back down and got out a ring. It was so unexpected, and no way would I ever imagined him getting a ring in advance for a proposal. We'd previously discussed a quick marriage to help with visas for a relocation but hadn't acted on it as we found another visa solution. We celebrated with margaritas at the beach bar!

Congratulations OP!

Just tying to be helpful as a stepmum myself and OP mentioned inheritance. You can get them done in anticipation of a marriage.

Congratulations!

Mine was a massive surprise!

We'd spoken about it a few times through the year, he had said it was coming before the end of the year,

We had a weekend away booked in Liverpool (my home town!) in November.

I was thinking it may happen then!

Three week before. Cold winters day, I looked like shite, walking the dog on the beach, I was kicking stones for him to chase (little stones as he's only a small chihuahua!))

DP said from behind me "what about this stone?")

I turned round and he was on one knee with a big diamond in his hand! ❤️

Wedding is booked for sept 2024!!
