Comfy-not-frumpy wedding guest shoes?!

I'm a guest at a wedding soon and have a lovely, below-the-knee marroon and black pencil dress. Can anyone recommend some suitable shoes? I'm so out of touch with what's fashionable and don't know where to start and thought some of you lovelies might have some ideas.
Ideally I want something comfortable, not too expensive and which looks good (or at least not frumpy!)! I've got narrow feet and lots of shoes are too wide on me or the straps are too loose (if they aren't adjustable). I'm likely to be wearing tights as it's cold and my legs are very white so think the shoes will need to have closed toes. I realise the tights will also put me into the frump zone but don't think that can be helped! 😩

I’d wear short ankle boots? You could wear socks with them?

After seeing some of the fabulous boots on the site that @WentForAWalk suggested, I realised that ankle boots might be an option rather than shoes. Until that point I'd thought it had to be posh shoes for a wedding (it's been quite a while since I've been to a wedding or anywhere else that needs some dressing up 😁). Anyway, I've since been out and got a pair of boots that I think will work and can wear thick tights with them too so I won't be freezing. Double win!

Brilliant choice, I wore ankle boots to an event recently. Many of the women wore high shoes & were crippled. I was happy out.
