Any (disorganised, terrified!) August 2023 brides?

Brideintheheadlights · 04/01/2023 12:00

I joined another thread for Aug 23 brides, but it ended in bickering about spelling(!).

We are very behind with planning and I'm a bit scared! Anyone else want to join up for a bit of support/encouragement/idea sharing?

Our date is 18/0823. Yikes!

June 23 here... no idea what I'm meant to be doing at this stage!

Brideintheheadlights · 05/01/2023 12:25

@glovepillow22 Hi! Congratulations. Me neither! We don't yet have anything sorted except our ceremony and reception venues, hotel night before and night of, marriage notice given and maid of honour and best men sorted. Feeling overwhelmed with everything that needs doing but no idea where to start! I guess save the dates, my hair and make-up and photographer are probably the next on the list......

If you haven’t got your dress yet you should probably do that in case it needs altering

Brideintheheadlights · 05/01/2023 12:32

@SausageInCider thank you, but have a few lbs to lose so am waiting at least a month before dress shopping.

I'm September 2023

I feel like there's so much to do because to save money I'm planning on doing a fair bit of DIY

I've got my dress (although I don't think I like it anymore 😕)
Venue booked
Rooms for night before booked
Save the dates sent (did a watsapp STD and no one seemed to mind)
Photographer booked
Videoographer booked
Registrar booked (but only provisionally because we can't register intent to marry until 6 months before)

Still to do...

Mens suits
Bridesmaids Dresses
Flower girl dresses
Flowers
Make and send invites
Make seating plan and welcome sign
Menu Tasting
Decide on hair for me and bridesmaids
Have hair and makeup trials

Oh and actually decide on a colour scheme because I keep changing my mind 🤦‍♀️

No idea if this will help but years ago, my big wedding plans turned into a big mess because my family is crazy. I got fed up and changed it to a small afternoon thing for a dozen people with a fancy lunch to follow, a room rented in a restaurant and special menu. It was absolutely wonderful to just duck out of all the drama and stress.

Now, here in the US anyway, "micro-weddings" are getting popular. It's typically one place that handles everything for a small wedding. You just sit down with them and check off boxes, like which cake choice, flower choice etc. you prefer.

Largethighsbadeyes · 06/01/2023 10:56

I think that sort of wedding really units some people and is probably really beautiful and intimate.

Luckily for us we really like our families so big wedding it is! 😊

I'm not feeling too stressed at the moment but I imagine nearer the time it may get a bit hectic

June 2023 here. I booked all my suppliers about a year ago so have:

Venue (including catering)
Photographer
Videographer
Celebrant
Florist/decor
Dress (number 2 as went off the first one...)
Bridesmaid dresses
Kilt hire arranged
Band and DJ
Cake (friend is doing it as a present)
Hair and makeup organised
Rings bought

Now we're 5 months out (!) we need to start finalising details like colour scheme and flowers, get our pre-wedding photoshoot done (photographer recommends this so we can get comfortable in front of the camera and get to know him), decide on a script for the celebrant, organise alterations for the dresses, buy a veil and jewellery (I just got my shoes), do a cake tasting, book a hair and makeup trial and pick music for the ceremony and reception. I was feeling organised for a few months but it's ramping up now. I'd love if we could use this as a support thread for 2023 brides if you don't mind OP?

KimmySchmitt · 08/01/2023 17:12

Oh and I found Bridebook really helpful. It gives you a checklist of vendors you need to book, tasks you need to do and a rough timeline

Hairgician · 08/01/2023 22:00

Another one here who is having doubts about the dress🙈🙈
All paid off and waiting for me to collect from shop.
Tempted to sell it and look for something else. Shit.

Still loads to do. List to be done tmw. I said that in other thread i think but i only started a list.

RiktheButler · 09/01/2023 21:36

It's wedding fair season. Go along, chat to suppliers, don't just go to book...you may find some help with your worries there

Hairgician · 11/01/2023 15:54

So picked up my dress yesterday. Not even looked at it again🤣🙈
Seamstress booked for 3rd june so loads of time for a maintenance phase then fatloss.
Flowergirl dress ordered yesterday while in bridal shop. Cant wait to show dd she will love it!
Flowers sorted. Only going with bouquets and buttonholes. Not doing the arrangements for chapel cos fuck that shit.
Need to look on etsy for digital templates for my invites. Last one we went to in nov she used a template and it looked lovely.
Texting everyone this week to save the date.
