Help me pick a veil length please?!

This is my dress which I purchased off the peg so there will be alternations to the cups etc as they currently don't sit right as you can see on the photo.

I've added photos of the dress with a model in it too so you can see what it looks like in all it's glory.

But anyway ignore the fact the cups aren't right on me at the minute. My issue is the VEIL

The one I tried on in the shop is 96". I'm ordering my veil off Etsy, I cant afford to pay ££££ from the bridal shop.

My dilemma is do I stick to a similar length I tried on in the photo (98" is the one I've found on Etsy) or do I go for a longer one (114" or 118").

Which length do you think would look best with this dress? Should I...

  • Stick with what I tried on
  • Go for a longer one

Thanks!

It’s lovely. I’d go shorter though! Maybe fingertip length.

Stunning.

Mine went to my mid back and it was just right - enough to feel special but not enough to be tripping on or dragging through mud etc.

Glorious dress! I think the length you tried or fingertip (I made mine using veiling tulle, a hair comb thingy and some transparent thread. It was really easy and about a tenner all in, and looked lovely)

Ooo you guys have thrown a spanner in the works now. Off I go to Pinterest to look at fingertip length ones too now!

Thank you for saying it is lovely, I thought I wanted plain with sleeves but how wrong was I 🙈

I love this! Things can get ridiculously expensive so I'm definitely up for getting things cheaper where possible. I'm only wanting a plain one too so there's no way I could justify paying hundreds for one just because its from the bridal shop.

The one you've shown looks lovely so I'd say 98" would be perfect.

Enjoy your "big" day!

brighterthanthemoon · 16/11/2022 21:03

I'd go shorter so it doesn't hide so much of the back

Verbena87 · 16/11/2022 21:05

Yes to the silly expenses - I paid out for the dress I wanted but for a plain neutral veil that didn’t distract from the dress I just couldn’t see the point. If my experience is anything to go by it’ll end up tried on by tipsy bridesmaids, tiny nephews and somebody’s dog by the end of the evening anyway 🤣

That dress is absolutely amazing on you! The veil looks lovely that length, I'd either go for that or 118" so it was definitely trailing. I got mine from Filigree Bridal on Etsy - cathedral length, it was only about £25 and fab! Got lots of compliments on it, and it matched my dress perfectly. They do lovely hair bits too 😊

See I wouldn't bother. Personal preference but I'm not keen on veils. But The back of that dress is stunning I wouldn't want to hide it. I'd get something really ornate slide/pin for my hair Instead

I also agree with previous posters that fingertip length would look lovely.

If you do want a little bit of lace on your veil, ask your seamstress. Mine popped a little offcut of lace on a plain veil for me.

hellosunshineagainxxx · 16/11/2022 21:28

I think fingertip is best then you can always wear it all day! Looks beautiful but doesn't get in the way

SpeedwellPurple · 17/11/2022 01:22

Beautiful dress! I think the length in the photo is perfect.
I rented my veil from my seamstress. A bit of googling I found a few places that did that. Could be an idea if you're not worried about owning it forever.
