Wedding - city of London cheap options

Dani8467 · 11/07/2022 19:03

Hi,

Am planning getting married in central London as have always dreamed of getting married in the city. Also price helps as I understand it should be possible to hire a pub or portion of bar or pub for the reception on the weekend. Has anyone got any experience of this? Or any suggestions? Budget wise, about 10,000 and around 90 guests.

Any help massively appreciated,

dani

10k is not a cheap wedding. Are you looking for a church or town hall, there are some lovely old town halls that have reception rooms available. What time of year are you looking at.

MissusPongo · 11/07/2022 19:08

Do you want a sit down meal?
Do you mean the City or just central London?

Tuilipcity · 11/07/2022 19:16

Lots of city pubs are cheap at the weekend to hire. It is much more economical than people think to be honest. We got married in St Katherine's Dock gorgeous menu and free bar for 50 for about 3k max.10 years ago.

TakeYoMama · 11/07/2022 19:21

Most pubs in the city are closed on weekends anyway so they’re usually happy to open for a minimum spend.

I would try The Devereux by Temple

Hi,

Sorry I meant 10k is absolute ceiling. Ideally it will be a little less. that will be maxing out our finances and some. In an ideal world we want a nice pub or bar, having our close friends, a
it down meal and to dance afterwards. Speeches too if possible. Not fussed about a smart venue, prefer to have everyone we want there

Ideally in the city of London or very central if not and nearby.

bleedingheart.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/Wedding-proposal-2022.pdf This place is lovely. Their standard wedding package is slightly over budget but you don't have to have the full package.

MissusPongo · 11/07/2022 19:54

Actually having read your last post it might be a bit too full on weddingy. Worth a thought though.

Doveyouknow · 11/07/2022 19:58

Lots of pubs will open for minimum spend in the city as they are normally closed. You might need to get married in registry office first though as I am not sure many have licences to hold weddings

chiffchaffchiff · 11/07/2022 20:09

I know it's a Wetherspoons but this location is beautiful and they have a licence for weddings www.jdwetherspoon.com/pubs/all-pubs/england/london/the-knights-templar-near-fleet-street

Dani8467 · 11/07/2022 20:14

Thank you all for help!

Yep happy with registry office if saves on money for wedding itself.

Bleeding heart looks great but out of our price range unless they would do discounts on prices.

Not necessarily against the wetherspoons but would prefer non spoons pub if possible for the big day

I went to a wedding reception at the Alchemist near Aldgate. It was very nice and I think they are usually closed on Saturdays so presumably a good deal.

Yodaisawally · 11/07/2022 20:27

Bleeding heart is a bit passé now. What about some of the pubs around Smithfield's. They've cottoned on to the appeal now though. Cheap and City don't really go together.

Hoolihan · 11/07/2022 20:31

The Lamb in Leadenhall Market or the Peasant in Clerkenwell. Worth doing a search for pubs you like the look of and asking if they do exclusive hire - as others have said some City pubs are closed at the weekend.

We had this kind of wedding - got married in Bow Road register office then reception in a bar on St John's Rd (sadly now closed). Absolutely loved it - bar hire & catering about £5k for 60 guests.

Dani8467 · 11/07/2022 20:40

I don't really know Smithfield's too well, does anyone know any pubs around there that might do deals on the weekend for weddings?

Not heard of the Lamb or Peasant, will have a look at both

Hand & Shears in Smithfields is lovely, very trad Victorian and definitely closed at weekends, don't know if they hire out though.

JorisBonson · 12/07/2022 19:35

I went to a reception at Butchers Hook & Cleaver by Smithfield and it was fab.
