Dress adjustment

I bought a gorgeous dress in a bridal sample sale but I am not 100% convinced on the back. Does anyone know if it would be possible to have a seamstress amend it?

I am imagining the bit I have shaded black removed (on both sides) iyswim? I've posted a close up to show how it looks.

I think it looks pretty open already

I remember when I was dress shopping and in the store they told me to ignore the tops of dresses and concentrate on the bottom as they can change almost everything on the top

Oh wow I didn't know that, thanks!

You will lose some of the support to the front and then there's no waistband at the top of the skirt, they will need to add a trim or some reinforcing inside.

LoveBugBride · 04/07/2022 18:19

Ah I didn't think of loosing the support. That's a very good point!

Won't it then gape at the sides??

Pleaseletmeconfirm · 04/07/2022 19:39

I think it would look odd with any of the back removed. At the minute it looks balanced. It's not exactly to my taste but I can see it could look stunning.

I think it looks stunning as it is. Cutting off some of the back could lose support to the waist and leave you with side boob.

Robin233 · 04/07/2022 20:11

Looks awesome op as it is.
If you got a similar figure you're going to look stunning!

NotMeNoNo · 05/07/2022 06:42

Yeah it looks like the inner support to the bust sweeps down and around the back like a low back bra. If you cut it, it will be like cutting the sides off a bra, there will be no support. Honestly it's a lovely dress.

I think it’s lovely as it is. I don’t have the figure for backless but it’s a gorgeous style if you do. What is it you don’t like about it OP?

LoveBugBride · 05/07/2022 08:56

Ah that all makes a lot of sense. I will leave it as it is.

It is lovely and I will be happy wearing it, I just preferred the really low back ones. However for £100 I will learn to love this one! I couldn't imagine spending the 2k that the bridal shops were quoting on some dresses.

Ooh no, don't get it removed! That bit is beautiful and makes the dress what it is. Lovely dress, have a great wedding!
