Christmas Eve wedding

Has anyone got married on Christmas Eve? My partner and I are in the very early stages of planning our wedding and we’re not sure on what we want at all at the moment!

The one thing we do know is that we want a smaller wedding (I hate the family politics of pleasing everyone!) so I think it will just be us, our two children and immediate family. (14 total)

We got engaged on Christmas Eve last year and love the idea of a small Christmas Eve wedding, maybe in the afternoon as it starts to get dark with lots of candles and a nice meal. Though the logistics of it might be a little tricky! (Sorting the children’s presents for the next day/ everything that comes the day after a wedding being on Christmas Day) or even if places cater for weddings on Christmas Eve.

Has anyone done this and can share how their special day went?

thanks! :)

Christmas Eve is my favourite day of the year and is about CHRISTMAS, not weddings 😂 I get what you're saying that it's only very close family but it's such a magical day anyway, why not have the wedding on one of those lovely slow days between Christmas and NY?

I would hate it, and also it makes Xmas eves in the future your anniversary, rather than the family day it is meant to be.

Lovely for the bride and groom- shit for everone else.

We got married the week before Christmas, went full on Christmas theme with mulled wine and mince pies after the ceremony instead of champagne and canapes, a festive bouquet, Christmas music, log fires, and it snowed, it was magical! Left enough time for us to have a short honeymoon before returning for Christmas with our families, and now we've had lots of lovely festive December weekends away to celebrate our anniversary since. I would have found a Christmas Eve wedding way to stressful though, and wouldn't like to be invited to one. I'm still desperate to be invited to a Christmas wedding though to experience it as a guest, just not when I have presents to wrap and sprouts to peel!

December= everyone is skint, riddled with germs and already have a load of social obligations.

Christmas Eve would be tricky, I did once go to a lovely NYE wedding, was nice because it was an excuse to dress up and celebrate seeing the new year in. Also been to one in that "no mans land" between Christmas and New Year and I loved that wedding, it gave me something to look forward to in a week I normally don't do anything, and it was nice to catch up with everyone and ask how their Christmas was etc. Weekday wedding, so cheaper for B&G but most people were off anyway (except me, shift worker, but I did request the day off as I got enough notice of the wedding!)

I went to a wedding on 27th December and that was bad enough.
