Birmingham Jewellery Quarter - Engagement Ring

My wonderful boyfriend proposed earlier this year, and we are getting married next year in Scotland. We are going to the Jewellery Quarter in Birmingham to look for an engagement ring, in a couple of weeks. Any advice on how to get the best out of the experience?

Am not sure if she still works in the JQ but we got our wedding rings from www.katesmithjewellery.co.uk/wedding-rings - we really liked the simplicity of the form and the fact that both rings had the little holes echoing each other. They're not mega fancy but I love the gentleness of them.

But the JQ is literally shop after shop after shop after shop all selling jewellery. Many of the shops will make their own jewellery, or commission things if you want. All the shop keepers are happy to recommend particular places if you have something particular or unusual in mind.

One thing to think about in choosing an engagement ring is what sort of wedding ring you are going to have - good for them to be the same metal, and, if going for a large jewel, thinking about how this will sit with the wedding ring. The JQ folk will advise you on this.

We went with 2 appointments booked but both stores looked like a cattle market, not a special engagement ring shopping trip!

we stumbled in mto Mitchel&Co by accident and they were fab. Special booth, coffee and champagne whilst they helped us design a dream ring! Loved it, a really special day and a ring handmade for me!

I got my engagement and wedding ring from there - best day out ever!

Take your time, wander around all the stores, enjoy!

My husband had my ring made by Bicknells and we were very impressed - worth a visit IMO!
