Getting married in UK when living abroad

Hello all!
I'm a UK citizen and my partner is an Irish citizen but we are going to be living in NZ whilst planning our wedding in the UK. I am getting my dress and booking my venue in the next two months before I travel but I also need to book my registrar before I book the venue. I find the info hard to understand and was wondering if anyone has done this and what they needed to do?

Do both of us need to be at the office when we speak to the registrar?
My wedding is early 2024, can I actually book so far ahead?
We'll be living in the UK from December to the wedding so we will be in the country for a while before the wedding.

Any tips or help would be amazing?!
Thank you!

You have to book the registrar and then give notice. I think places vary in how far in advance they will take bookings, so you would have to contact the relevant place and see if they are taking 2024 bookings.

In terms of giving notice, you both need to be there. It needs to be within a year of the wedding and at least 30 days before, so that bit can wait until you are both here.
