Matching handbags and shoes for a wedding?

Tolkienista · 26/04/2022 15:40

I haven't been to a wedding for years, so i'm definitely a bit rusty on wedding attire. I've got my dress, shoes too.........however i 've always felt that shoes need to match the handbag, colour wise. My shoes are cream coloured, can't find a bag to match. Am i crazy in thinking they need to be twinned up colour wise, or can i just go with anything.
PS my dress is a dusky pink base with a flowery print on top of the base colour.

Any thoughts.........

Totally understand the desire for matching bag and shoes but no, it's not absolutely necessary. But the bag must match the outfit overall. So perhaps a colour from the flowery print or a slightly darker pink than the base colour.

I totally think they do not have to match. I don't think I've ever worn matching shoes and handbag and I am really quite old. To me it seems quite a starchy approach.

As a general rule I either match my footwear and shoes or wear darker shoes than bag

With a pink dress I think green shoes would be nice. Then you'll look like a flowerbed with flowers and greenery. I have no idea about a bag. I only own a brown satchel, and can see that wouldn't work. Seriously, the weddings I've been to recently no one has matched bags and shoes so I wouldn't worry about it.

Sorry, just seen you have the shoes. Cream sounds great.

Tolkienista · 26/04/2022 16:24

Thanks for all your comments so far........I'm wearing cream shoes because they're ultra comfortable for a very long day. Last time i wore them was for a graduation day and they got me through from morning to night without any pinching or rubbing.. As for the handbag, i guessed that matchy matchy was a tad too old fashioned!

Those sound like exactly the shoes to wear then!
What about one of those small round woven bags? If you google 'small round woven bag', ones come up that look to me quite nice.

Thank you Instant Sunshine...........I've got a very similar bag already, now you've given me the idea that I can use it with my outfit. Job done.

Yay! 😊Enjoy the day.

The day happens to be this Sunday May 1st...... the weather forecast happens to be dire.......coldish, showers and overcast. Luckily, i've sourced a jacket to wear over my dress, otherwise i'd be shivering whilst outside. Basically when planning an outfit for a wedding in this country, always have a plan B!

Gah! Typical, isn't it? Maybe take an enormous blanket too and a woolly hat.
