Do we buy a gift?

We were invited to DH's cousin's wedding back at the start of 2020. It was due to take place in October 2020.

Obviously plans changed. The couple did get married on the date they planned, however they had to reduce the guest list to just immediate family. They also shared a video link so we could watch the ceremony from home.

I think we sent them a card at the time but no present.

They are now having the reception they couldn't have and we've been invited again.

It's just a reception and I don't think there will be any vow renewal or anything.

Do we buy a gift? Take a card? The couple haven't mentioned anything.

Would you have got them a gift at the time?

JedEye · 14/04/2022 18:04

A bottle of bubbly?

foodaddict21 · 14/04/2022 18:05

@JedEye

A bottle of bubbly?
I was going to say this

Yes I'd take a gift definitely. Vouchers for a department store probably

softglammmmmm · 14/04/2022 18:06

Yes I would buy a gift for them

FairyCakeWings · 14/04/2022 18:07

I’d get them a gift if you would have gone to the wedding. Technically for just a party I don’t think you’re obliged to get anything more than a bottle, but they’ve already missed out on the wedding they wanted so it would be nice to give a gift.

Vsirbdo · 14/04/2022 18:08

Yes I’d take a gift

foodaddict21 · 14/04/2022 18:16

Did they mention gifts in the original invitation? Like money/vouchers/anything specific?

bookish83 · 14/04/2022 18:17

Yes I would get a gift or money

Not bubbly though, a tenner would be a better option if money was tight!

Gift it is then. They've had a baby and moved house in the intervening time so vouchers for John Lewis might be best.

Original invite was just a save the date. Covid happened before formal invites went out.
