Restaurant in London for wedding meal

I'm getting married in July. Small family event with 25 people approx and at a registry office, and then hopefully a lovely meal afterwards.
Does anyone have any recommendations for a nice restaurant? We'll be in Islington for the ceremony but happy to get taxis to a nice place to eat.

The Ivy, Chelsea. We went to a fantastic wedding party there. Private room. 30 guests.

What day of the week? Some amazing City restaurants will be very quiet on a weekend so you may get a good deal financially.

Fredericks in Camden Passage? Islington. I went to a wedding meal there some 20 years ago which was lovely. Hopefully it’s still nice.

Bitterbean · 13/03/2022 19:48

Thanks for your replies. We were considering Fredericks but it may be a bit pricey. I'll have a look.
I should have mentioned it's on a Wednesday.
Will look at the Ivy Chelsea thanks.

Quaglino’s

We hired a private room at Bentley’s in Mayfair, they couldn’t have been kinder and more helpful. Seafood mainly though, so that would need to be your thing.

Bitterbean · 13/03/2022 20:10

@NotYourOscarSpeech Mayfair sounds v pricey!

The Draper's Arms in Islington have a private room and do excellent food

NotYourOscarSpeech · 13/03/2022 20:40

@Bitterbean It really wasn’t that bad (I mean compared to what some people spend on weddings anyway)! I think our bill came to around £1500 for 10 of us, that included champagne on arrival as well as three courses, wine and coffee/petit fours plus they arranged flowers from the florist according to our spec in advance.

Bitterbean · 13/03/2022 20:42

@Svalberg thank you that looks brilliant! I've never heard of it. I'll check it out.

@NotYourOscarSpeech it looks amazing. I will definitely check out. Thank you so much.

I'd probably stay in Islington. Fredericks or Drapers Arms, as suggested? There are a few lovely posh pubs around there with private dining areas you could use.

Babymamamama · 14/03/2022 09:36

The Albion also nice.

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 15/03/2022 14:05

Lots of suggestions here. The Duck and Waffle looks a bit special for the view

One thing to consider is that restaurants open and close very regularly. If in 3 yrs time it's turned into a branch of M&S would it bother you to not be able to celebrate an anniversary or take your kids there? A private dining room somewhere with some serious longevity might be preferable. #lessonslearned

Or you might prefer the latest trendiest spot and food!

JungleJimbo · 15/03/2022 14:08

Yes, Drapers arms or Frederick's would be good

The Duke of Cambridge is excellent (and all organic food)

FoggySpecs · 15/03/2022 14:11

Frederick's are actually cheaper than you might expect

Hide in Piccadilly. The lunch menu is very affordable and the food is fabulous.

GrannyGoggles · 10/04/2022 16:23

Like others, I’d probably stay quite close to the ceremony. Trullo is a lovely Italian restaurant close by, Drapers Arms is good. Would not go to any Ivy, v chain-y.

LoudSnoringDog · 10/04/2022 16:28

I'm not from London but went to Drapers Arms about 3 years ago for the 40th meal of a family member who lives down there. Really lovely atmosphere
