Have I left it abit late?

Hi
Getting married end of July and have an appointment for a bridal shop next Saturday. Starting to think maybe I've left it a little late for starting to look for dresses ? Do they take ages to make etc if I don't find a sample one or something? Maybe I've been a little too laid back !

@newtothisbride I got married less than 4 months after getting engaged, so had way less time than you do right now. Turns out that even though all the swanky made to measure shops massively prefer having 6 months or more to get things sorted, it's amazing how fast they can turn things around if your wedding date is a lot sooner and you might be spending money with them!! Don't stress it - I'm pretty sure that they will just bump you to the top of the queue. Good luck with dress hunting - enjoy it! And congratulations ThanksGlitterball

I'm a bridal consultant and it can take 5months + for them to be made to your measurements go through quality control and then be shipped to the stores. You'll find that most bridal stores offer an off the peg service where you can purchase a dress in or round about your size for a discounted price.

It's op name changed !

Yeah maybe I should've started looking sooner but can't turn back the clock now ! Just going to see what they can do in the shop if there is one I fall in love with ! If not I'll be going to my nearest wed2be

We got a dress off the peg with less than 4 months to go before the wedding. Local seamstress altered it. Looked gorgeous!

@Thecurtainsofdestiny how long does altering usually take ? Do you have to keep going back? Or just have one appointment if it only needs taking in then leave it til the big day ?

Our seamstresses say 4/6 weeks before the wedding because you'll need to see them a couple of times

Hi @thunderonlyhappenswhenits

I think it depends on the dress. Ours was done in 2 weeks - dress fit like a glove but just too long and loads of layers! So one visit for measuring, then one visit to try on and take away. It was perfect at that point. I suppose that more visits would have been needed if it hadn't been.

How does it work if you want to lose weight ? I'm 9 1/2 stone but hate my stomach, mainly due to bloating and getting a muffin top! So wanted to try and trim down a little before the day

Do you want a real traditional wedding dress OP?

I got mine off the (virtual) rack, our wedding was fairly casual too.

thunderonlyhappenswhenits · 02/02/2022 13:12

This is the one I've fallen in love with online but thinking now even if it suited me I probably won't have time 😭
