I have a stupid question about my wedding dress

I’m getting married soon, not a huge lavish affair by any means but I am wearing a white wedding dress and heels.

What do brides wear under the dress? Tights, stockings … I hate tights but I don’t want bare legs as will be a February wedding and my shoes may rub.

What did you do?

I wore granny pants and changed into something nicer at the hotel!!

I had a November wedding and just had bare legs under my dress, I hate tights. My shoes were comfortable, I wouldn't have gone with shoes that might rub or hurt.

ANameChangeAgain · 17/01/2022 10:01

I was an August wedding, no one could see my legs so I didn't wear tights. I didn't want one of those horrible garter photos either, so it wasn't an issue. I probably would in the winter though, if they get annoying you can always bin them later on. Make sure you have gel pads in case your shoes rub.

oneconcernedmama · 17/01/2022 10:03

I just wore big comfy pants, I didn't want to wear tights incase they started riding down and I had to nip off to fix them.
Wear your shoes in before the big day around the house so they are less likely to rub.

krazipan · 17/01/2022 10:04

I also got married in February and just had bare legs.

SilverHairedCat · 17/01/2022 10:05

August wedding, long leg knickers for chub rub. Bare feet in sandals.

Didn't bother changing into anything else as DH passed out while I was getting the pins out my hair 🤣

Marcipex · 17/01/2022 10:05

I hate tights and stockings too. Tricky though in February.
What about ballet tights? The very pale pink would be pretty.
You can always take them off later.

MrsRubyMonday · 17/01/2022 10:06

I was absolutely boiling under my full length dress, tights would have been miserable. I wore cheap ballet flats which didn't rub so just went bare legged and bare foot but a small pair of the shoe liner socks might work or just get some of the soft heel liners you stick inside your shoes.

Caramelvanillafudge · 17/01/2022 11:49

Ballet tights sound lovely, thanks.

I don’t have brilliant posture in flats otherwise I’d definitely opt for these - thinking about it I might order a pair and keep them handy if my feet do start to really hurt. I have a fur shrug to wear (not real fur obviously) - keep feeling I’m going to look ridiculous!

Depends partly on your dress, what shoes you're wearing and if people can see your legs/ shoes at all.

I have a full length dress and flat shoes. I hate tights as well so I'll probably just go with a comfy pair of shorts underneath for warmth and small socks in ballerina style shoes.

Drinkingallthewine · 31/01/2022 16:48

vaseline rubbed on the skin where shoes tend to rub against works wonders for preventing blisters if you do decide to go barelegged.

PermanentTemporary · 31/01/2022 16:52

How do you feel about those footsies made out of tights material? They didn't really work for me as my feet are so appalling (bunions, vast hooves) that the footsie hasn't been built that can do the job. But I know people who swear by them. Holdups work for me as I have quite squashy thighs so they grip well.

Agree entirely about vaseline and Compeed plasters [glamorous]. Or just build your outfit round comfortable shoes.

grey12 · 31/01/2022 17:51

I hate tights too. Have you tried suspenders? Wink

VivX · 31/01/2022 18:35

I had low heels and hold up stockings but also with suspenders for a summer wedding.

Footsies tend to ping off at stupid moments and then sort of gather into a lump under the ball of the foot. That might just be me, though.

JLQ1020 · 31/01/2022 18:37

I had a Feb wedding. I wore giant spanx underneath. Didn't wear anything on my legs or feet as I had a big dress which kept me lovely and warm. I also broke in my shoes for a few weeks beforehand by wearing thick socks over them and walked around the house. I also had flats to change into for later in the evening.

2holibobssofar · 31/01/2022 18:41

I went pantless and bare legs. I wore sparkly trainers under my floor length dress with those invisible trainer liners inside. Also wore in the trainers around the house first.

Sarahplane · 31/01/2022 18:42

I had a December wedding. Chub rub shorts underneath my dress but no tights or socks.

m1shap3 · 31/01/2022 18:47

December wedding, bare legs

furballfun · 31/01/2022 18:48

I also hate tights, and went for knee length pop socks. Not particularly glamorous, but none of the guests could tell (and I made sure I took them off before the dress!). Would only work with a long dress though.

whatthehelldowecare · 05/02/2022 01:00

I had bare legs and these terrible stick on pants that were strapless because my dress was sheer at the sides. The bloody stick on pants lost their stickyness by the time I got to the top of the aisle and I had to spend the whole ceremony, receiving line, confetti throw and 30 mins of the drinks reception clenching my bum cheeks within an inch of my life to stop the pants falling out my dress Grin

Bettybantz · 05/02/2022 01:05

I wore nude hold ups. Fashions may have changed by now though
