Cocktail style????

I've been invited to a wedding next spring and the dress code is cocktail style.
What does that mean????
I've asked the MOB and she said said something sparkly but that doesn't really help me.
Any ideas?

Dressy but not long. Something you'd wear for a Christmas party basically.

Something that can go out at night, but isn't full length (most would be knee length or shorter, but ballerina length is fine if you prefer a bit longer). No knitwear, unless it's a 50s vibe fluffy shrug sort of thing

Often in jewel colours, they'd be in silks, satins, taffetas etc, and can be embellished (beading, embroidery, sequins). Party clothes, really. Men would be in dark suits, Nehru jackets or possibly black tie if mainly an evening do.
