Wearing black to a wedding reception.

Hello all,
Just a quick conundrum!
Friends of ours are getting married today, and originally dh and I had rsvp no, due to him being in hospital for several and we were sure he'd be home this early. However he came home last week, and decided last night that he'd like to pop into the reception just to say hello and give his well wishes etc, as he's feeling up to getting out for an hour or so. Now due to this being so last minute, I have no outfit choices other than one black dress. Normally I'd speak to the bride and see if she'd be okay with me wearing that colour, however I obviously don't want to text her on her wedding day.
So would it be okay to wear a black dress? It's just a basic long sleeved midi.

I wouldn't see a problem with it at all

Can you jazz it up with anything colourful? Scarf, bag, shoes, jacket, jewellery? I've worn black to an evening do before but it wasn't a particularly formal wedding.

I'm sure it'll be fine

Put some colour with it as PP suggested.. It'll be fine especially as only sticking head in

My SIL wore black to my wedding by mistake (she thought it was dark blue!) but teamed it with a bright scarf and looked fine. She apologised to me but it wouldn't even have occurred to me to be upset by it.

Bright cardigan and shoes or something? With a fascinator?

I think black is fine for any formal occasion tbh.

SleighBells21 · 19/11/2021 13:25

It's fine.
Colourful shoes

Ah fab. Thank you all!
Yeah I've got a couple different coloured heels that would go well!
