What date did you pick and why

I’ll go first. We’re getting married on the last bank holiday in August next year on the Saturday. I always remember the bank holiday as big family bbq’s having a catch up. Lots of food, chatting and laughter. It’s one of the happiest memories I have of my childhood and growing up. It will be nice to celebrate our wedding anniversary at the same time of year.

I hope you have some happy stories Smile

We chose the anniversary of our first date, we also moved in together on our anniversary, but we didn’t twig at the time.

Onthegrid · 15/08/2021 08:35

I wanted a summer wedding and the venue I picked only did a few weddings a year, they had 2 dates available for the next summer and I picked the one in the school holidays, thinking that in future I could be on holiday every year for my anniversary.

We have been married for over 25 years and have been away for most of them

soontomrs · 15/08/2021 08:36

I wanted the bank holiday in august but it was fully booked for the next couple of year so we went for the bank holiday in May.

BrilloPaddy · 15/08/2021 08:38

We chose an available date at the register office..... only they messed up the paperwork and we ended up getting married using a special licence on a different day. So it was all completely random.

Easter Saturday because DH was in the RAF and it was the next time he had time off after we got engaged at Christmas

delilahbucket · 15/08/2021 08:40

We originally picked Spring Bank holiday weekend, as most people wouldn't have to work and the weather is usually very nice, and it fit with a bright colour scheme that we wanted. That was last year. We had to postpone so went for the same weekend this May. We had to postpone that too and it's now next Friday because it's the only date we could get when everyone was free in the busiest wedding season ever known because everyone postponed to this summer.

BabyRace · 15/08/2021 08:41

First May BH on the Sunday, because of many religious restrictions. There were about 5 Sundays in the year when we could get married (can't marry on a Saturday) and the only other we could afford (not in August) was the day after my birthday, so we picked May instead. Weather was beautiful.

I had always wanted to get married in June, being 3 months after my birthday, 3 months before DH's birthday, with Hannuakh/Christmas holidays 3 months between his birthday and mine. Seemed a nice way to break up the year but wasn't to be, unfortunately.

MydogWillow · 15/08/2021 08:41

March because Spring is a beautiful season, all about new starts etc, but the main reason was so we could have a skiing honeymoon Smile

inappropriateraspberry · 15/08/2021 08:41

Looked at Saturday dates the church had available and picked one!

Loubiemoo · 15/08/2021 08:41

We got a calendar. We closed our eyes and put our finger in random place. One of us did month, one did day. Then we moved it to the nearest Saturday.

StCharlotte · 15/08/2021 08:44

@thistimelastweek

We got married in the weekend between two important football fixtures.
Similar.

We got married on the first Saturday in September because there are no Premier League fixtures as there's always an International match. Half the wedding party (including me) had season tickets so no one had to miss a match.

NiceTwin · 15/08/2021 08:44

Friday 13th, nobody else in the district was getting married that day, so we could choose the time and the hotel had plenty of rooms for the family.

First weekend in September. So the weather would still hopefully be nice (it was), but our honeymoon wouldn't be in peak summer holiday season.

MsSquiz · 15/08/2021 08:46

We got married on 1/7/17 - we didn't have a specific date in mind when we were looking at venues, just July or August and 1 venue sent this date in an email and I like how it looks written down (I have a thing for ordering and numbers)

We chose the year to ensure no international football competitions would clash, and we were outside of the English football season. (Having heard from my SIL that there was a match on their wedding day and her dad started his speech with the score, I knew I needed to avoid it! Especially as DH often travels for international comps and has a season ticket with his best man!)

AbsolutelyPatsy · 15/08/2021 08:46

we wanted to do it quickly, in 6 weeks and the first available was my df birthday, so we chose the following saturday,

Farevalah · 15/08/2021 08:48

We got married on Boxing day. I love Christmas so it was the best practical option. The only thing that slightly disappointed us was no snow but on the upside it wasn't raining, it was a mild dry day. I was worried that people wouldn't turn up but everyone did. It was great!

OneToThree · 15/08/2021 08:49

We met on March 11th so wanted that date but not available so took the next free Saturday, April 9th. I didn’t want summer months as hate the heat.

StCharlotte · 15/08/2021 08:49

We had to postpone that too and it's now next Friday because it's the only date we could get when everyone was free in the busiest wedding season ever known because everyone postponed to this summer.

You're not kidding! I have two midweek weddings in less than a week coming up. Good thing about all the travel restrictions is that I have plenty of annual leave to use up this year Smile

Have a lovely wedding!

bigbaggyeyes · 15/08/2021 08:51

The date was significant to a hobby that we met through .

BeastOfBODMAS · 15/08/2021 08:55

We picked mid September- good chance of summery weather in the UK but after schools go back so cheaper holidays for honeymoon and anniversaries!

BikeRunSki · 15/08/2021 08:56

May Day Bh weekend. We lived a long way from both sides of the family, we thought having a Bh wedding would allow people time to travel and have a longer weekend away if they fancied.

TheGallopingGourmet · 15/08/2021 08:58

He proposed in June after dating for 3 months. We didn't tell anybody until September because I wanted it to be our secret and it felt a very special time. We married the following year, 29th February. I chose that date because February is a bit of a nothing month and it was nice to plan for something after christmas. The weather was a gamble. I'd hoped for a cold, sunny day. It was mild and rained all day but we still had a fab wedding. We celebrate our Anniversary every 4 years and always plan something quite special.

AbsolutelyPatsy · 15/08/2021 09:02

29th February is a magical date for a wedding!

Beamur · 15/08/2021 09:05

We decided to finally get married and wanted to squeeze it in before a holiday we had already booked. Picked the only date and time still available! Wedding was organised in little over 6 weeks
