Marriage certificates

Hi all
I’ve read that the way marriages are registered has changed and we will no longer sign a register on the day or receive a marriage certificate on the day. So I have a few questions if anyone can help

1. If we don’t sign anything on the day and it’s all just verbal at what point is the marriage legally binding. I don’t think husband to be will do a runner but if it’s all just verbal it seems a bit wishy washy and where’s the proof it actually happened??

1. When do we pay and receive a marriage certificate. Once we return from honeymoon I was really hoping to crack on getting my name changed and all the important places need a marriage certificate.

You still sign a document but now it’s just an A4 sheet rather than the old style certificate.

I did contact my local registry office but they can’t give me a timescale when I’ll receive a certificate

I got married in June. We signed a very official looking piece of paper (I think it's called a schedule) with our 2 witnesses. We then received our certificate in the post a week after the wedding. Phoned the registry office to get 2 spare certificates to help with the name change thing for £11 each and they arrived shortly after too. It's deffo not just words / wishy washy, it's all very much official and legally binding!

I sort them out. You will sign on the day, the celebrant then has to send the form to the registry office. Approximately a week after you marry you can apply to the registry office for your marriage certificate. If you marry in church you have the option of taking the signed form to the registry office yourself to speed it up

Registrar here, as pp said you'll sign a schedule at the ceremony, along with your witnesses and the two of us. We then take that straight to the office where it goes onto the system and your certificate is generated. Where I am couples order the certificates beforehand, so for example the couple I'm marrying tomorrow I already know would like two certificates. We send them out within a week. Have a lovely day.

I got married last week, was told certificate would be sent to us within 7-10 days but we didn’t order any?
