Spray tan or not?

fairgame84 · 09/05/2021 11:48

Never had a spray tan before. I get married in 9 days and my friend says I need one.
I don't want to look like David Dickinson on my wedding day so I'm leaning towards going with my normal wash off body shop tan.

I'm booked in for brows and nails the evening before the wedding so if I get a spray tan before that will I end up with patches from my brow wax?

Hopeful bump 🤞

I work in a wedding venue. I've seen too many wedding dresses covered in orange marks. Definitely not worth looking a mess for a fake tan.

fairgame84 · 09/05/2021 14:51

Thankyou!
I didn't think it could rub off after a few days.
I definitely do not want fake tan on my dress!

If you have never had a spray tan before, I definitely wouldn't be getting one now. It could be disastrous. You could go to a tanning salon and lay/stand in a bed several times for a few minutes to get some colour if you want, and normally I would never recommend anyone use tanning beds, but in this case I would over a possible spray tan disaster for your wedding day.

Thankyou aquamarine.

The whole reason I've got to the age of 36 without a spray tan is because my friend had one and it went a green colour 😂
It put me off!

I'll stick to my coconut bronze wash off stuff.

This is exactly why I told you not to do it. I know several people who had horrible experiences with spray tan. One of whom had a terrible reaction and got a nasty, blistering rash all over her body, and she had never had a reaction to anything before. Another had hers go all weird, orangey/greenish streaky disaster. A huge NOPE from me.

Thankyou

Spray tans are nice if you have a nice one. I get mines done using the same tan and by the same person every time I have one and it's lovely, but equally if you go to someone not great or who use cheap tans it might be horrible. Not worth risking it at this stage, maybe if you had time to try a few first.

JackieWeaverFever · 09/05/2021 18:53

100% do it.

I bought a package of 3. I did one 3 weeks out to practice and flag where I forgot to exfoliate.
The one i had for my wedding and honestly it looked great.

Give yourself a really really good scrub before, watch a youtube on how to apply barrier cream.
Just make sure you get a clear mystic spray tan no with glitter and sparkle or whatever crap they offer.

My dress was totally mark free and it looked great!!

I get married in 9 days and I have no time for trials so I'm not going to do it. As others have said, it's not worth the risk.

If it is a dead white dress that is a very draining colour - but the oompa loompa look of a stay tan will just make you look ridiculous. And your mate needs to stop slagging you off.

SmileyClare · 09/05/2021 19:04

What's your normal wash off body shop tan? If there's no chance that will mark your dress then go with that.

I admire how gung ho JackieWeaver was doing her own spray tan at home! Just how? I'm imagining brown smeared carpets and drips down your back Shock although I'm sure yours looked great Jackie.

Congratulations Op and hope you enjoy your day Smile

It's the coconut bronze wash off tan. I use it a fair bit and it doesn't stain. I have white uniform at work and it's never rubbed off on that.

Why are you telling someone to ‘100% do it’, when you had one three weeks out to test it, and she doesn’t?

OP - don’t ‘100% do it’. And I say this as someone who had one before my wedding, and it went really well, left no marks.

What’s the worst thing that could happen?

Divebar2021 · 09/05/2021 19:11

Not at this stage no. Too many unknown variables.

fairgame84 · 09/05/2021 19:23

This.
It's not worth it. I've been waiting a year for this wedding, it's been cancelled 5 times. I don't want to look like this just because I might be a tad pale.

Oh dear is that one of your bridesmaids at the rehearsal?

I suppose you've got to think how it'll look in photos too. It would be a bit strange to look like you've just returned from sunning yourself in Tenerife if your husband is pale next to you, and you're usually pale skinned yourself.

fairgame84 · 09/05/2021 19:32

My husband to be is dark skinned north African so he'll never look pale next to me!

OP posts:
SmileyClare · 09/05/2021 19:35

Ah right, that's not an issue then Blush hope I didn't put my foot in it there.

Ill just dig myself out of this hole by saying it would look strange if you were deeply tanned on the day (and in photos) when everyone knows you as quite pale naturally!

zebrapig · 09/05/2021 19:36

Don't do it! I did it once when I was a bridesmaid, looked so much darker than my normal skintone. I felt really self conscious and like an oompah loompah. It has been forever immortalised in my friend's wedding photos. To top it off it blocked the pores under my armpits and I couldn't sweat properly for months. Never again!

Thisnamewasnttaken123 · 09/05/2021 19:41

I wouldnt get a spray tan as I think they are too dark for me and a bit orange.
I do a gradual tanner I think they look more natural, the cocoa butter formula is good.
