Talk everyone to the beach?

We're wanting (have no money) a small but fun wedding. Would it be crazy to get married in the morning and then coach to the coast? We'll have less than 30 guests. We're 2 hours away from the beach.
Potential problems are bad weather and access to toilets.

Yes fun for you because it’s your wedding day, less fun for your guests. You have to provide proper access to toilets at a wedding I think

OddAbe · 13/04/2021 20:05

Yeah I definitely need to have toilets. I'm just thinking through options.

I think the toilets is too big an issue. Also what have you planned for food and drink? And if you receive presents or money you'll need a safe place to put them.

SmidgenofaPigeon · 13/04/2021 20:07

To do what at the beach?

viques · 13/04/2021 20:08

What are you planning to do when you get there?

Four hours in a coach to ruin my shoes for your photo opportunity isn’t my idea of a day out at the seaside.

ConnieCaterpillar70 · 13/04/2021 20:09

Sounds mad, sorry.

We're 2 hours from the coast, and it's A road most of the way apart from a brief section on the motorway. Last time we went, it took 5 hours to get home due to an accident. We had no food or drink with us, and were 18 miles from services. We haven't done it since!

TheThingsWeAdmitOnMN · 13/04/2021 20:15

Bunch of 20/30 somethings friends - could be fun.

Mostly older family, probably not so much!!

Coaches won't be cheap either
Everyone is tied to returning at the same time
Food/drink a lot of planning

Maybe I'm just getting old, but it sounds impractical.

Why not just find a nice garden location and have the ceremony and the afternoon there?

Plan a picnic day at the beach with friends 'just because'.

Lightsabre · 13/04/2021 20:20

Would be better to get married at a beach venue then surely?

HeddaGarbled · 13/04/2021 20:29

Utterly crazy, bless you 😀

Is there a lake or river or wood or something nearer?

ohidoliketobe · 13/04/2021 20:31

But what would you do? Take a load of deckchairs and expect people to sunbathe and build sandcastles in their wedding guest outfits?
At 2 hours you'd have to offer return transport to original location too, I'd be declining the invite as sounds a bit of a faff as a guest

OddAbe · 13/04/2021 21:25

It's literally only close family. I'm just looking around for ideas right now.

Could you get a marquee somewhere? I got married a few months ago and this is what we did. Everyone had a good time even thought there weren't many of us.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 13/04/2021 21:43

Can you not just get married near the coast? We married in a coastal hotel so we could pop across the road to the beach for photos. Then you have a base with toilets etc. I wouldn't want to do it as a day trip after a ceremony, either as a bride or as a guest. Everyone will be in their best clothes and not appropriately dressed for the coast.

Pedalpushers · 17/04/2021 11:38

There are some places where you can hire beach huts and have a bbq, which could be fun or could be very sandy!

iklboo · 17/04/2021 11:43

I bloody hate beaches & sand (weird, I know). It wouldn't be my idea of fun, sorry. What would you be planning on doing when you get there? Just standing / sitting around on the beach wouldn't be great.

hauntedvagina · 17/04/2021 11:50

That sounds bonkers, sorry.

If it's a small number of guests and you want something outdoors but with shelter in case it rains and toilets, why not look for a localish campsite that has a few safari tents, everyone could stay over them, you can usually fit at least six people in one.
