Do you think weddings will be back to normal in Aug this year ? My niece has already had her wedding cancelled due to covid & rescheduled to Aug she has 250 guests

I think that there will still be limits on the size of gatherings and she will be forced to cut numbers.

I also think many guests would decline to go to such an event

DiscoStusMoonboots · 11/04/2021 10:34

I'm hoping the same. My wedding was postponed last August to August this year - we've invited about 80. Fingers crossed!

Echobelly · 11/04/2021 10:37

I don't think there will be unrestricted gatherings this year, despite what Johnson has said. We have a family do that, as it happens, comes just after the June date when everything will allegedly be back to normal, but I am working on the assumption that the best we'll likely get is 30 people for a party outside.

bellsbuss · 11/04/2021 13:46

We are hoping for 60 guests in August , feel optimistic this will happen.

Changingwiththetimes · 11/04/2021 13:49

I don't know about 250! My friend does weddings at her (stately) home and she says all her weddings have been postponed this year as too risky, which is costing her a lot obviously. Another friend is getting married in December and is assuming restrictions on big gatherings may still be in effect so is planning small.

Applejack87 · 11/04/2021 14:32

I agree my niece should have rearranged for next year the amount of people she’s invited is too much

@Applejack87 she can only plan with the advice she's been given and it looks as if it will go ahead. Fingers crossed! More likely is that it will but things might get tighter in winter again

MrsCaptainJakeBallard · 11/04/2021 15:21

We are getting married in Aug and are planning for 50. I doubt it'll be unrestricted even with mass testing etc. Also questioning if it is who is paying for all these tests - obviously we wouldn't expect our guests so we would need to (I know England are getting free tests each week by then but not sure in theory how this would work with an event) which could add thousands to the costs.

We also now need to start locking in plans and numbers 12 weeks before with our venue so don't want to risk booking for any more. Anyone I know who wants more than around that have rescheduled to next year. J

Haberdasheryhen · 11/04/2021 15:23

It also depends on where the guests are travelling in from? Just uk, or further afield? I imagine there will be quarantine restrictions in place if no travel corridors.

Haberdasheryhen · 11/04/2021 15:24

or...where no travel corridors ...

namechangemay21 · 11/04/2021 15:24

Why is everyone so pessimistic when it's been stated weddings will be able to go ahead as normal by the end of June?

I'm planning to attend one in July and think it will go ahead

Haberdasheryhen · 11/04/2021 15:26

Would you fly to one in the UK though, if you lived abroad, and if you hadn't been vaccinated?

In my case I think it's better to be pessimistic now than disappointed nearer the time & have to uninvite people if it doesn't happen 🤷‍♀️
MrsCaptainJakeBallard · 11/04/2021 15:32

Im also in Scotland and that hasn't been said here.

Pedalpushers · 13/04/2021 04:05

I am cautious but optimistic that there will be few to no restrictions on numbers in August (I think it's more likely that cooler months would mean tightening restrictions - August last year, pre-vaccine, was as close to normal as we've been all pandemic) however there is almost no way any guests from abroad can make plans.

ncnoclue · 27/07/2021 19:57

Looks like your niece's wedding will be fine, your doom was wrong!

AmperoBlue · 27/07/2021 23:39

Unless she has a predominately young crowd I’d be amazed if everyone showed up.
Vaccinated people are catching Covid now so there’s a high chance some won’t attend that have caught it.(hopefully).
Others will feel it’s just too risky especially as it’s not going to be possible to insist on mask wearing.

Still I hope it goes well anyway and the sun shines.

CornishGem1975 · 28/07/2021 14:03

I've been to two weddings in the past few weeks and nobody cried off because of being scared of COVID. Quite the opposite, everyone was thrilled to be doing something normal again.
