Married at home?

Has anyone got married at home? We are clueless on where to start...I'm wanting a ball point figure. Large garden and think this September....

You can't have the ceremony there, you know.

You haven't said how many guests if it's a reception so impossible to give any kind of figure.

I've seen you can get married at the registrar on a Saturday. Would you then move to reception at home?

Appreciate this is all local rules pending.

We hired a local Manor House for a house party and nipped off the the registry office to get married then back to the big house for celebrations.

We ran it by the owners prior and had a strict limit on guests, max was about 35. We had cater

Pressed sent too soon, we had caterers for the Saturday just so we weren't worrying about the logistics of food, but kept it all very low key. Guests helped themselves and we'd set up a free bar.

It was a really nice way to do a small informal wedding.

I can't see why you can't do the same in your home. If it's big enough to accommodate your guests then why not? If ours had been big enough I would have done exactly this.

@purplebagladylovesgin that sounds perfect! Thanks. Do you know if you can do the registry office bit at your venue also? I'll give them a call in a bit and double check. Guess it will depend on availability also. Did your guests go with you?

@Adulting2021 yes, our guests came with us, the registry office was big enough.
It's unlikely you'll be able to get married at a hired house unless they have a wedding license. If they do they whole package gets very expensive. It more than doubled in costs. That's one of the reasons we kept it separate.

You can find out which venues in your area hold a wedding licence, I think this info is held by the registry office as they are the ones who would be travelling to conduct the ceremony.

The house we hired was £2,000 for three days so we had time to get the house ready. Our whole wedding came in at under £7,000 including all bridal party clothes, rings, wedding food, cake, venue, flowers for the house and bridal party, bbq's, accommodation for guests in the house and a three day wedding.

The duration was the best bit really as we had time to come together as a family with close friends and people that had travelled could stay or go as they pleased.

The house was hired as a party venue regularly so had big food prep areas and five reception rooms. It was was huge. Beautiful location and gardens for photographs.

It was a special time. Looking back the only thing I'd change is hiring more help. But everyone pitched in and it was a fun few days.

We're getting married this August. Having a legal signing thing at the registrars office (literally an office in the local library for £70) at 10.30 am on the Monday just the two of us.
Then we've hired a barn for the weekend for both families and having a humanist ceremony in the courtyard (weather permitting) on the Saturday.

Best of both worlds - I've always wanted to get married in my jeans so will do that for the legal bit, then I have a gorgeous dress for the actual ceremony.

We had to move everything from last August and I'm so happy and excited that we can go ahead this year!
