Ideas of small weekend abroad

So we are only wanting family and close friends. There are about 100 ppl. I wanted just a ceremony and then all eat at a restaurant paying for themselves. Up to them if they want to do that but I've written the list and didn't expect 100. Any other ideas?

You want 100 people to travel abroad and then pay for their own food? Confused

zoidforth · 06/08/2020 20:05

I was waiting for that response Hmm

I'd prefer to go just the two of us but people want to come. Can't invite just those people without offering to others. Big family.

This has got to be a joke thread?

peachypetite · 06/08/2020 20:07

Sorry I’m not sure I understand your OP. I read it the first time as you want a wedding abroad but everyone to pay for themselves? And 100 people isn’t small. What advice do you want?

zoidforth · 06/08/2020 20:10

Okay how about I then need a wedding marquee with 250 guests and feed them which I'm happy to do buffet style. In the UK. I was planning a second part at home with friends where a buffet would be incl. So if we make that friends and family we are looking at 250+. But we just want food coming round, not a help yourself buffet bc we want it nightclub style

100 is our family unfortunately. We have pressure that people and want to come but we just want the two of us. So we thought okay people can come but just to the ceremony. Then we will go for dinner and they can come if they want.

If you intend to invite 100 people, which even with a large family is not a small wedding. Then you need to accept that they will be incurring costs to attend, so you not providing the meal etc is entirely insulting.

If you can't afford the meal etc, then you can't afford that wedding or you have to rethink numbers or venue or both.

lakesidesummer · 06/08/2020 20:44

OP you can't seriously expect people to attend a wedding where they pay for their own food? Possibly abroad?

Have you ever attended any weddings?

Likewise a nightclub for 250 people with canapés as a wedding idea.

Set a budget and work from there.

Pieceofpurplesky · 06/08/2020 20:52

Wow, can't wait for the thread from one of your guests 'forked out £200 to attend a wedding and no reception - no food, drink - cheeky fuckers expected us to pay for ourselves'

zoidforth · 06/08/2020 20:55

I don't think any of you are actually understanding what I am saying. And I can see how you have read it so I do understand that. Many thanks for your replies. I am going to leave the thread.

Sorry to put a damper on, but is there anywhere (that people would realistically want to go to) that would welcome 100 British (assuming you are?) wedding guests?

We have friends due to marry in
October in a UK country hotel with 30 guests and even that’s looking unrealistic atm,

If I flew out to your wedding, I’d expect to be fed and watered.

Ginfordinner · 06/08/2020 21:00

Family and close friends is 100 people? I don't believe that at all.

Twickerhun · 06/08/2020 21:01

Under current circumstances i can’t see a wedding abroad being the best plan. If you want people to pay for their own dinner I think most people would buy they would judge you for it.

snappycamper · 06/08/2020 21:05

Sod what other people want. It's your wedding. If the two of you would prefer for just you two to go abroad and marry alone then do that!

Thisfucker · 06/08/2020 21:07

@zoidforth
It reads to me as though you've made the statement that you'll be going abroad to get married, now you're being put under pressure to invite others. You can't give an invitation to some and not others.
Maybe your first mistake was to tell anyone.
As pp have said, start with a budget and work from there. Or just arrange your wedding abroad and tell the families when you get back.

DianaT1969 · 06/08/2020 21:20

I don't know of many restaurants that can cater for 100 an advance booking, a deposit and final numbers a few days before.

tankflybos · 06/08/2020 21:23

"Family and close friends is 100 people? I don't believe that at all"

Really? My family and close friends come to that and that's not nearly all of the family - just the ones I like Grin

OP - what do you want? What are you asking? You surely can't think a wedding abroad but guests pay for their food is reasonable?

justoverthehorizon · 06/08/2020 21:29

??????? Gretna?

lakesidesummer · 06/08/2020 21:33

If you want to get married but can't afford to host a wedding then elope.
Either in the UK to Gretna Green or abroad if Covid restrictions get lifted.
Your family can't insist they attend and if neither they nor you can afford a large wedding they will just have to manage without attending your wedding.
