Still can't give notice or book a registry office?

So we always intended to get married this year, just a quick registry office ceremony type thing - then lockdown happened.

We hadn't booked the registry office or given notice as we just thought as we didn't have any particular dates in mind, would be easy enough to book whatever was available.

However now that weddings are "allowed" again, albeit with rules, we still aren't able to book a registry office or give notice?! They aren't accepting bookings or taking appointments - has anyone else found this to be the case?

My registry office are only taking new bookings for weddings from January 2021 and they're not currently doing appointments for giving notice either.

The registry office for my area advised back in March / April they would not be taking any new bookings for the remainder of 2020 nor would they be making any appointments for giving notice. They also cancelled / postponed every booking up to 31st August. I'm not sure if this has been changed since lockdown has eased, I haven't looked at the website recently as we have now postponed.
I assumed that by taking no new bookings this would enable all couples booked between end of March and August the first choice of any remaining dates in 2020.
If there is availability perhaps in Autumn/ winter months that don't get taken in your area you might get lucky and be able to book something later in the year.
