Finishing touches for a wedding night do

I'm getting married this year. We've planned a small family ceremony followed by a party in the evening. Because I'm not having the whole day with all my friends and extended family I really want to give them a great party in the evening. We are providing food of course but I wonder what else I could include to make it a special and memorable party?

Am considering a band - any other ideas? People use photo booths and cardboard cutouts of bride and groom and so on. It's a fairly standard venue so just want to be able to jazz it up and make sure everyone has a great night...

Any ideas for personalised touches - mood board, photos and so on would be appreciated!

Definitely a band. I love a party with a ceilidh or some other instructed dancing like salsa etc.

Definitely a band if you can! Went to a wedding with a guest book and a Polaroid camera - everyone put their picture and a note in the book and it was really nice.

Depending on the space, you could have games like skittles etc available to play. Also a magician who goes round doing table tricks is fun (obvs I'm assuming an eternal budget here Grin)

Did think of a magician. But having been to a few weddings before with them I feel like they work better during the down time like between meal courses than at the evening where everyone just wants to mingle and get pissed!

I like the idea of cardboard cut outs for people to pose with. And/or a photo booth. Just don't want people to be bored!

I had a reasonable sized tree with photos of all our guests at their own weddings hanging on it. Took time and a bit of Facebook stalking to do but it was really nice personal touch.

Glow sticks for the kids were good too
