Can this be fixed with alterations?

I collected my wedding dress yesterday & wasn’t happy with how it sat. It’s supposed to look like the first pic but instead looked like the second. Like a big balloon at the bottom. How can this be fixed? I like it from the back but just not the front Sad

I think it's too long...that's causing it to puff out a bit at the hem. It's not very bad though OP....is it also in a different fabric to the original picture? The original seems a bit more shiny...your fabric seems heavier.

To be honest, it's nothing...I think it will sit better with an inch off the bottom or maybe a little more than an inch.

Also remember, the first pic is staged...it's highly possible that there's something under that dress that's making it sit "just right"

But you're not going to be standing stock still...you'll be walking and turning and moving. It's not going to look like the first pic really.

Have you got the shoes on you'll be wearing on the day? If not, and if they'll be heels, try them, it may raise it. Otherwise, it may need taking up a bit.
For what it's worth, it's an absolutely stunning dress and it looks amazing on you!

This was the sample I tried on so it was sitting nicely.

No but I was on a box which was raising me up quite a bit.

I’m hoping maybe lifting the hem will help otherwise it’s because it’s been shipped and sitting in packaging and not sitting right.

The hem in the sample looks about 1-2cm from the floor. Your dress is 1-2cm ON the floor (so between 2-4cm lo her than sample).

I would guess that the petticoat is the same length in both and not touching the floor, so the extra fabric makes a strange shape (although it's only really obvious if you show the two photos side by side and are standing still) partly because of how the support is too.

It's a beautiful dress though and you look wonderful in it!

Winterwarmer21 · 15/12/2019 06:59

Thank you, that’s SO reassuring!!

Hopefully a hem lift will solve it then. I didn’t even see the hem difference between the sample and mine which now explains it and hopefully means I can relax Grin

Have you got a picture of the whole front of the dress? A bit is cut off in your second photo so I can't see how it touches the floor (or not)

Here is another photo but not exactly full view either.

It needs taking up and possibly the straps also need shortening, as the waist seems a little low too. After that it should fit beautifully

Windygate · 15/12/2019 07:16

It's too long at the front. A decent dressmaker should be able to alter the dress. If you could try it on and stand on a box I'm sure it would hang better and you could see that it needs taking up.

It's a beautiful dress and looks lovely on you.

I've got no advice to offer but just wanted to say it's gorgeous and suits you so well!

Winterwarmer21 · 15/12/2019 08:12

Thank you 😊

You look beautiful. I think the band/material around your waist need to be tighter. That will give more shape.
