Wedding times

I'm trying to come up with a rough order of the day so I can book our ceremony time but I have no idea how long things usually last. It's for under 50 people. Any guidance would be appreciated Smile

How long would you give for the following -

Drinks reception/photos
Bbq buffet with pudding

Also if the venue needs the tables taking down/moving for the disco in the evening do they do this around guests or do the guests go elsewhere? I don't have much wedding experience so I'm clueless as to how it all works.

Hi OP, I take it your ceremony and reception are both in the same venue?

With regards to moving tables, at most weddings I have been to where this was necessary there has usually been a bar area / other room which was used whilst the rooms was re-jigged, but it will depend on your venue. Why dont you ask them?

As for timings, will depend on how many photos / type of photos you are after. Are you having them all done at the venue or using another location as well? If all at the venue I would say allow a minimum of an hour to an hour and a half.

Again I would probably say an hour or so for your buffet.

Why don't you try working backwards so you can organise your ceremony time.

Sorry that would help, all at same venue.

I've asked the venue a lot already and didn't want to look silly 😳 I haven't been to a wedding as an adult so have no idea of the usual running times.

Photos would be mainly me and DP with one or two group shots.

You're going to be paying this venue a lot of money....ask them the questions! They will have heard it all before and won't think anything of it at all. Grin

We had our wedding all in the same place and had the following timings. It went so quickly but I think they worked well as no one was hanging around too much.

2pm - ceremony
2.30pm - drinks
3.00pm - group photos and couple photos
4.00pm - speeches
4.30pm - food
6.30pm - room cleared and few more photos
7.00pm - guests welcome back into room
7.30pm - evening guests arrive
7.45pm - cake cutting and first dance
8.00pm - 12.30am - disco

This is based on 50 day guests and an additional 35 evening guests. They were what our venue suggested to us and they had worked to before.
