I had the best time attending a wedding in New York a few years ago - though the couple live there, rather than them choosing it as a destination wedding. It was very casual - about twenty of us (some from the UK, some from NYC) went with the couple to City Hall and then we had drinks and snacks at someone's apartment building, followed by a (planned) bar crawl all round the city. I loved the municipal thing and seeing lots of other couples, from super casual to quite glamorous, all getting hitched at the same place.

Of course, it wasn't particularly cheap for us as guests Grin and it really was very casual - I think they'd reserved areas in some of the bars but for the most part it was just like being on a night out. Which you could just as easily do in the UK, though the novelty of NYC of course made it very special.

Maybe this gives some ideas.

Yes we did. Not much to tell really, applied for the license online, went to city hall the first morning we arrived to complete the paperwork and went back 24 hours later to get married. You do all the paperwork before the ceremony so you are already married once you've signed everything really. We used an elopement photographer and she was our witness.
