I really don't want to spend £hundreds on my wedding dress and when I search for cheap ones a company called JJsHouse keeps coming up. However, the dresses are made in China and they do look a bit t o god tombe true. Has anyone had any experience of them?

Came across this site for bridesmaids, they have lots of bad reviews.

Newmumma83 · 17/10/2019 19:46

There's quite a few Facebook groups dedicated to eBay / China dresses. Lots of real reviews and photos, I can't remember what they are called as I left them but searching 'China or eBay wedding dresses' should do the trick. My friend got her bridesmaids dresses from a Chinese seller on eBay and they were amazing!

Newmumma83 · 17/10/2019 19:48

My cousin used them for all her bridesmaids and again looked lovely.
Slight difference in material and returns policy is a bit expensive.

Other options is look at wed to be / see if you like Debenhams or next ( sure they did wedding dresses ... all off the rack options so cheaper

Saying that the bridal shop i used did beautiful made to measure dresses from £295 if you get nervous call around I did and didn’t set foot in a bridal shop that didn’t do good deals

Newmumma83 · 17/10/2019 19:50

Just go try on a few styles first make sure you order what suits best you will be surprised show you may change your mind On what you want x

Didntwanttochangemyname · 17/10/2019 19:51

I wore a bridesmaids dress from them and it was awful. Very badly made, stitching was poor and the material was very uncomfortable and scratchy.

Newmumma83 · 17/10/2019 19:54

The material wasn’t as nice as my adult bridesmaid who had it from a bridal shop. But looked the same

Other option get a bridesmaid dress in white or ivory or the colour you are looking for x

My sister has recently been looking for cheaper wedding dresses and that site kept popping up. The trust pilot reviews weren't too good for the place.
She eventually got one from JarloLondon (who also sell via House of Fraser and Very) which was really good quality and fits perfectly. Fabric was really heavy and felt good quality.
Hers was listed at £110 but it was on sale at Very for a bargain £65.

It's my second wedding and my first wedding dress was a meringue that I didn't really like, but went along with buying because my mother liked it. Long story. This time I'm much older (47) and fatter (size 18 at the moment as I'm not very active recovering from an op) so while I'd love a slinky column dress, I know that skater style looks best on me covers the tum.

My fiancé is a total romantic and although our plans are to marry abroad (possibly Venice) he would like me in a nice white dress with a veil and I'm a fool and would like to give him that! Just don't want to pay over about £300.

I don't know about the dress but just wanted say I love the idea of a Venice wedding!

Threeminis · 17/10/2019 20:05

I got mine "off the rack" was £199.
I did have to pay for it to be altered and dry cleaned, that was £150.

Not that far over your budget and at least you can try on

Brideof2020 · 18/10/2019 19:28

See if any bridal shops near you have sample sales you might be able to pick something up. As a PP have a look at wed2be or ebay?

MsSquiz · 18/10/2019 19:32

@Leighhalfpennysthigh what about something like this, if you prefer a skater/1950s style dress?

Came on to suggest:
Monsoon
Sample sales
Oxfam pre loved wedding site

My top tip would be to buy one size up to allow for proper alterations. My friend bought her actual size & realised it came up too small around the bust. So had to pay ££ to return it.

CrackersDontMatter · 18/10/2019 20:21

Try chichi London. I got mine from there and was really please with it. It was reduced to £32 but I'm sure it was only around £60 to start. They go up way past an 18 too. They have some lovely dresses.

Powderperfume · 19/10/2019 18:34

How about ghost wedding dresses?

kate288 · 19/10/2019 18:41

I used someone called Lacemarry on Etsy. I paid around £400 for a beautiful long sleeved lace fishtail dress(custom made). She is based in China but makes the dresses herself (I think), and it didn't look as cheap as it was. Although I did give measurements and it was still quite big so had to pay a few hundred for alterations but you'd often have to do that with dresses from a shop anyway!

Leighhalfpennysthigh · 19/10/2019 22:14

Thank you for the recommendations I'm going to have a look at it all. I have a feeling I'm going to have to buy a 20/22 as I remember the sizing from last time - was a 6 then and most disgusted at having to buy a size 10. These days if I can fit into a 16 I feel thin! I really don't think that with perimenopause and still recovering from op I'm likely to see 16 again any time soon.

Anyway, Venice. Yes. It is a wild romantic dream and we just though why not? This wedding is about us and our future and so we want what we want. Fuck knows how Brexit will affect it though. We're also going to have parties in both of our ho,e towns to celebrate the marriage afterwards.

SheWoreBlueVelvet · 20/10/2019 12:12

Amazing! I wouldn’t worry about Brexit too much. Non EU people travel and marry in Italy do as EU coupled. The wedding will be just as legal since it has nothing to do with Brexit.

There are plenty of independent sellers on eBay and the like. They buy old stock and sell it on. My dress was £1,200 on sale in a bridal shop, This place had it for £450 ( although I bought in from the States in the end from a similar place- cheaper still but import tax was ridiculous).

You can try them on too if you buy here. I loved having it actually in the house to put on, look ar different accessories yo go with it etc.

Haybo26 · 20/10/2019 23:12

I got mine from Chi Chi London. It came yesterday and I love it. It first like a glove and my Mum was stunned at how little it cost for the quality of it.
