Alternatives to engagement rings

Out of curiosity has anyone went for an alternative to an engagement ring? For example an engagement necklace.

We've chosen to have nothing. I can't put it into words without really offending everyone else, so sorry about that, but a ring didn't feel right to me.
I don't belong to DP, he didn't buy me. So him spending joint money on jewelery as a token of our engagement didn't sit right.
We'll probably both wear wedding rings.
Oh and he didn't propose. We agreed to get married over a series of conversations then at a mutually agreed date we put some more formal details around it and told people.

I'm sure my friends and family think I'm bonkers, but it suited me to do it this way, it feels right for us.
