First visit to Bridal shop failure

Went for a first visit to a bridal shop today, have been putting it off because I was so nervous. My friend was not available to come, she is on holiday so I have to go alone.

My mother is died and I have no one else I'd want to come with me. I'm a size 16 but currently losing weight for the wedding next July.

Came out of the shop and just wanted to cry felt so uncomfortable in the dresses and the shop assistant staring at me the whole time, comments about oh it's her first fitting and she doesn't know what she wants because it's also a sample sale day so got the feeling they were annoyed I didn't know what I wanted.

Just feel so sad. Anyone else hate their first fitting but other were more positive.

Gorgeous OP! Really beautiful.

I went to an independent shop after winning a competition for £500 off a dress. As soon as I got in the shop the shop owner was trying her best to sell me a particular dress. It really put me off. The dress I eventually liked was way over budget and I had specially told the owner I didn't want to spend much.

Dm and I popped over to wed2b where I felt so much better being able to browse and not being pressured.

My first and second shop visits made me feel like I was never going to get what I wanted. What I did learn very quickly was what I didn't want and that shop assistants will put you in absolutely anything to get a sale. My third visit was a bit impromptu. The place was closing down so I booked to go in with my bridal party the following day as there were a couple of dresses I liked the look of. I bought my dress and got a bargain to boot. Once you know what you don't want you can start to narrow it down to what you do want.

Fantastic news you got the dress.

Like others said it really does depend on the shop and staff. I was lucky, I had a good experience my first and only time and picked the third dress I tried on. It was actually one picked out by the assistant. I'd liked a particular dress, but the shape did nothing for me. We found a perfect shaped one, but it was too plain. The assistant instantly thought of another dress to try, within my budget and it was the one!

What a lovely dress! Glad you had a better experience today. Is your DD going to be a bridesmaid? I hope she'll get you excited about sparkly dresses and hair on the day - in my experience it's a six year old's specialist subject!

Definitely don’t get hung up on sizes. Admittedly i’m Smaller than you but I still had to go up a size. The assistant said that’s what they recommended to every bride and I was so fortunate that they had my size! Have you been to Wed2Be? End of line designer dresses and loads of choice. Mine was £600 and would have been £1300
😬
