Order of the day

Hi all,

I'm getting married next August - venues etc. all booked. It's just the order of the reception that's getting me confused!

We're going to be having a big, relaxed BBQ at a barn. Starts with a 3pm ceremony elsewhere, then 20 mins travel to the reception venue, chuck-out at 11. All fine. But - having only been to a few, very formal weddings - I've not idea what order speeches, food, cake, dancing etc. should go in.

All thoughts and experiences welcome - please help me whip this day into shape!

Can you do good at 5
Speeches straight after food

Cake cutting and first dance around 8pm?

Mine is a bit of a longer day, but this is the order:

1pm - wedding @ church
2pm - everyone is making their way to reception
3.30pm - everyone sits down for meal
4.30pm - speeches
6pm - evening guests arrive/band start
6.30pm - first dance
9pm - evening food

We're not doing cake cutting and it's a fairy relaxed reception (in a village hall near the church), but it was stressful working out the timings!

And 12pm - carriages!
