back tracking on quotes given

Hi, I'd like some advice on my next steps to take.

We received a recommendation for wedding videography they also provide photography we contacted them for a quote and they asked us to go into the shop and meet them. We did this, we discussed photography and videography for our wedding and were given a quote for booking videography alone and photography alone (both of which they had discounted for us) and then offered us an additional discount if we booked both.

We told them we were looking into other photographers and would get back to them.

Since the meeting we have decided to go with another photographer but use them for the videography (As the videography was initially why we contacted them)

I emailed to let them know and then called to discuss details.

He was initially frosty on the phone (I assumed because we hadn't picked them for photography too) He then after a few minutes said that the price I had been given (by him) on the day we met must be wrong and that would be a lot of work for the price quoted. I assured him that was what we discussed when we met and sent him a picture of the quote he wrote out in his handwriting to him.

He continued to say that maybe he made a mistake and got the price wrong, he ummed and ahhed about it and said reluctantly he will do it any way. He said his colleague might be annoyed but it will be fine (strange comment) as his colleague was present when he was working out the quote. He then kept saying during the call its a lot of work for that price but it'll be fine. I said honestly if its a problem not to worry, my fiancé and I will go back to the drawing board and see what we can afford. He said no no it's fine. We ended the phone call with the intention of me later this evening transferring the deposit.

Am I right to be furious that he's backtracking on what he has said. The whole phone call he sounded annoyed and frosty. Am I being unreasonable to now think about cancelling using them completely! I feel like on the day in the back of their minds they will be resentful.

I wouldn't use them, it would feel awkward. Find someone else who will make you feel nice on your big day, not that you're being an inconvenience to them.

I wouldn’t use them; imagine if he’s like that on your wedding day

Agree with PPs I wouldn't use him now. I'd be worried how he would be on the day and the end product to be honest. Id start looking for a new videographer.
