Has anyone actually got married in Vegas?

A few months into wedding planning and totally overwhelmed with everything. No real direction and keep changing our minds about what we want.

We are planning a holiday to the states next year (west coast) and dp joked that we should just do a Vegas wedding while we're there. Just me him and ds.

On one hand the idea of doing it with so little fuss and just coming home married really appeals to me. On the other I would be quite sad that my family and friends weren't there.

I kind of like the cheesiness of Vegas though and from what I've seen it's so so cheap to get married there! Has anyone been to or had a wedding in Vegas? What did you think about it?

Yep. We were on holiday and thought bugger it.

Just us. No fuss. No fancy clothing and it was perfect. We had our weddi g meal at maccy Ds 😂
I honestly feel that if we hadn't just done it on a whim, we'd have never married. We aren't the big fuss type people.

It didn't go down to well, with parents but they soon got over it and realised it was our choice.

I would revisit Las Vegas in a heartbeat. I know it's not everyone's cup of tea but I thought it was an awesome place to visit.

We stayed in the Stratosphere hotel and got married in The Little Chapel of the Flowers. Just the two of us. Had our wedding meal at the revolving restaurant at the top of the hotel. Spent a few nights in Vegas then went on to Hawaii and then LA!!

It was approx 13 years ago now and although we are no longer together nothing to do with getting married out there I must add I will always have the fondest memories of what was probably the trip of a lifetime.

What about Santa Barbara? It's really very gorgeous there - lots of lovely restaurants to go to afterwards.

We went to a friends wedding in Lake Tahoe - they married on the paddle steamer on the Lake. That was fun too. Lovely area.

Just a couple of other ideas if Vegas isn't quite doing it for you.

Just make sure you don't get married in Vegas in what is essentially a shopping centre - saw a couple of these when I was on holiday there and it looked really depressing. The main strip is full of flyers for prostitutes as well, I found the novelty wore off quite quickly!

I do know several ppl that have done it too and they seemed happy with their decision!

If having family and friends there is important to you - tbh it would be for most ppl - can you do a really low-key registry office and pub lunch/party affair in the UK? Maybe somewhere beautiful like Cornwall or Pembrokeshire if you didn't want to stay in your home location? You might just need a fresh start with your planning... Or is it the presence of family that's making things complicated...?

Have you been to Vegas before? I've been lots - not really out of choice everytime- and you would need to be very careful and do your research. It can be very tacky and seedy just one block off the strip.

Think about what you want from a wedding - do you want brash and in the hub of it or smaller and more luxury? Look at what is offered in Vegas but also the other resorts such as at Lake Las Vegas.

Yes we did just over 24 years ago. We had been living together for 9 years already so a big white wedding felt a bit pointless.
We went over with 2 friends to act as witnesses. Flew to La and drove through the desert to Vegas. We had a lovely ceremony - very traditional if extremely short and a nice meal after. It did feel a bit weird not having a huge family party and no one ever remembers our wedding anniversary but overall it was the right thing for us and I have some amazing memories

I'm drawn to the idea because frankly I just want to be married to dp without having to wait years. When I've dreamt of my wedding I've always imagined a huge day with family and friends but realistically we will need to save for years for that. Going away would be a lot simpler and would mean we could do it sooner. I would definitely arrange some sort of party when we get home to celebrate with everyone.

There are limited venues in our area so would have to travel (and transport guests) at least some distance anyway.

I have been to Vegas before and never thought I would consider getting married there but I kind of think it would be memorable and different in its own way.

It really was memorable and lovely in my experience anyway. We got married at sunset and walking through the hotel casino to my stretch limo (all part of the Wedding package) I felt like a film star. Brides are lucky charms in Vegas and loads of strangers came up to wish me well. In its own way it was really touching!

What's your budget?
We got married in the MGM Grand chapel and used one of their wedding packages.
Got flowers, music, some chapel decor, limo to collect wedding licence, hair and make up in the hotel salon, some photos and a DVD. They have different packages and you can customise. You can do this in any hotel. We ate in Tao (Asian restaurant in The Venetian) for wedding dinner and it was great walking the Strip for photos!

I’ve been to a Vegas wedding where the couple were married by ‘Elvis’. Great fun but not for everyone.

Friends did, a long time ago. One of the options offered was a Skype link or something similar, so although family wasn't there, they could access a live link and watch it being filmed as it happened. It was a brilliant day and so much fun.

I got married in the Little Chapel of Flowers just over 13 years ago, we loved it.

We have messed up families and neither of us like being centre stage so for us it was perfect and so simple to arrange.

We had a ball in Vegas, so much so we went back the next year.

Would do it again in a heartbeat and have never regretted it.

We did 6 years ago. We got matt at the little chapel of the west and had some wedding photos at the Las Vegas sign. We had a meal at the top of the Eiffel tower which was amazing and overlooked the Bellagio fountains. You can go as cheesy or classy as you like in Vegas. I had an amazing day and lovely holiday as well.

I haven't but we might be doing so! DP is a US citizen and has been there numerous times. We both hate the idea of a big wedding (and it's way out of our budget anyway) so are considering going there and getting hitched. We both don't want fuss, just to get married cheaply in a relaxed as possible fashion and start our lives together.

The only thing bothering me is the whole family thing. I've sounded out my parents a bit and said we might get married abroad and although they didn't say anything negative they didn't sound delighted either. And the last time I mentioned getting married just the two of us my mother then later accused me of being "embarrassed by her" and "not wanting family there". So it's a conundrum.

Also a friend made a big fuss about me not wanting a big wedding and hinting about wanting her kids to get dressed up to see me get married. Her parents paid for her large wedding, not everyone gets that advantage but even the thought of being stared at by everyone puts me off so much. I'd much rather go away and do it just us two.

I really fancy getting married in the desert although that's a bit more expensive. I'm enjoying reading about peoples' experiences

@WTF0ver I like the idea of just not telling anyone and making out that it wasnt planned, we just did it on a whim because 'when in Vegas!'

That way people can't really be annoyed. And ultimately it's not their choice anyway. Although certain family members and friends of mine would probably be upset and annoyed to miss out too.

I got married in vegas, it was beautiful we planned it & had 4 family members with us. We then had a party back home for everyone else.
Im in process of getting divorced but the vegas wedding was beautiful & i would do that again!

We did it in February! It was fabulous. We got married in a rooftop gazebo by Vegas weddings (google them) there were us and 2 friends. Nothing tacky, I wore my proper dress had flowers walked down the aisle, dh wore a navy suit with button hole. It was amazing, all arranged via email. Wholly recommend it. We had booked a venue here and got too stressed with the cost and mess about with it all so we transferred our deposit to an evening party and had a party with family 5 days after coming home.

We got married in Vegas 14 years ago, absolutely loved it and I felt like a film star on the day walking around in my wedding dress. I did lots of internet research beforehand as we'd never been to Vegas before. When we got there we had a look at a few of the options we'd considered, some looked great, some looked a bit lame. However my main reason for choosing Vegas was to avoid my shitty family dynamics and the stress that comes with it. If I had a less dramatic family situation we probably would've married at home. Not that I regret my Vegas wedding at all, it was amazing.

We’re planning on doing it in 2020 - booked a suite in the cosmopolitan and planning on having the ceremony on our balcony overlooking the Bellagio fountains.

I reckon we're going to go for it in a couple of months! Still fancy the desert, it will be just us so hopefully we can do it relatively cheaply. Have done a bit of research. DP says if I don't make up my mind soon we're going to have a Star Trek themed wedding
