Two Dresses??!

I don't want to give too much away about the dress I've already purchased because I'm not particularly discreet about outing myself on other threads...

Basically, I've bought a dress I love and, if my only option was to wear it all day then I'd be completely happy to do so.

Here's the problem Grin I'm a bridal stylist and got an amazing discount on my dress which now allows me to buy another dress if I want to. There is another dress in my store that I'm also head over heels in love with. My dress and the other dress are completely different shapes. One is mermaid and one is ballgown.

My questions are...

  1. Would you judge a bride who wore two dresses?
  2. If not, which order would you wear the dresses? Which one for ceremony and which one for dancing?

Personally - I would spend the money you have saved in something else.

Eminybob · 13/05/2019 17:41

I wouldn’t judge you though to answer your question!

Youngandfree · 13/05/2019 17:43

Each to their own,I had a friend who did it. Why not! 👍💕

LittleBlonde27 · 13/05/2019 17:44

Thankfully, everything else is covered with some to spare for honeymoon. My dress cost me 25% of my allocated dress budget.

I wouldn't judge you, at all.

I've been to a couple of weddings where this has happened and a colleague is going to be doing it when she gets married later this year.

One of the dress changes was for a pregnancy reveal (she was 5 months gone and they wanted to surprise everyone)

I'd wear mermaid first, ballgown second. That way you can dance and move easier in the evening.

NuffingChora · 13/05/2019 17:46

I had a friend who did this and it was amazing, she looked like a total goddess in both dresses. Got a decent amount of wear out of both of them too. Again, one mermaid and one more of a full skirt. If you can afford it, why the hell not?! Also a better chance of being able to resell at least one of them as the ‘day’ dress shouldn’t get wrecked...

LittleBlonde27 · 13/05/2019 17:54

@Aimily @Youngandfree @NuffingChora Aw ladies you're all making me feel much better about this!!

My OH says I should go for it too FWIW.

I suppose I've been a bit worried that people might be a bit "who does she think she is?!" but as my fiancé says, I do work in a bridal store so surely it isn't beyond people's imaginations to guess I might wear two dresses.

I initially thought ballgown for ceremony and mermaid for evening but have recently been thinking the other way around.

I really quite like the dress change of 2 dresses in a day

Banhaha · 13/05/2019 18:20

I wish I'd had two. My first was quite heavy and had a fairly full skirt. A slinkier one for evening would have been perfect to move around more in. Go for it!

Apileofballyhoo · 13/05/2019 18:20

I was at a wedding years ago where the bride wore a very formal traditional bridal gown to the church and changed for the reception. No-one batted an eyelid.

loveonthewall · 13/05/2019 18:21

My niece in law did. She had a Belle style ball gown for the day and a strapless skater type dress for the evening party. She looked fabulous and threw herself into the dancing. Enjoy!

Banhaha · 13/05/2019 18:21

I'd choose which ever one you like the best for the ceremony and the day as that will be the first one everyone sees you in and will be in most of the photos.

happymummy12345 · 13/05/2019 18:23

I've always thought it was the done thing to change. I did. Though I didn't want a second white wedding dress as my reception dress. I had a knee length navy and white dress with a crop navy jacket. Not bridal at all.

Atalune · 13/05/2019 18:32

I would probably think it was a bit frivolous of you and that you must love all the attention!

winterisstillcoming · 13/05/2019 19:55

Wear 2 dresses. You are a bridal stylist. I'd ex-etc you to wear at least 2! Go enjoy your day, after organising so many others'.

sirmione16 · 13/05/2019 20:04

Ball gown for ceremony, mermaid for evening!

LittleBlonde27 · 14/05/2019 17:21

Wow Grin Thanks everyone! You've (almost) all made me feel much better about my decision!

Two dresses IS frivolous but I am not one to regularly spend money on myself so for my wedding I'm going for it! Two dresses it is!

Still not sure which order to wear them but I've got a year to decide Smile

Hollowvictory · 14/05/2019 17:23

I would not judge you. Kate Middleton and Megan Debacle both did it!

LittleBlonde27 · 15/05/2019 08:35

@Hollowvictory Haha I'm not sure if that's sarcasm or not? I think Kate & Meghan are part of the reason I'm nervous about people's opinion of me - like I think I'm royalty or something!

I JUST SAID YES TO THE SECOND DRESS!!!!
